How many of you can say that you are in good shape if another panic were to hit ? I'm speaking of ammo , high capacity magazines , and even firearms . Do you have enough ammo to keep up your current level of shooting and even hunting for a year or so ? I guess what I'm asking is did we all learn from the previous lean times and adjust our stocks accordingly ? After Sandy Hook I got caught with next to nothing in the closet and I refused to pay the inflated prices . I just waited it out and restocked when I could . I made up my mind that I would always be in a position to profit from a panic , rather than suffer from one .

There's never "enough" but I'd be fine. I buy a bit more every gunshow, which is my best pricing, and I participate in good online deals when they come up.

In addition to guns, magazines, and common ammo, I am more or less set. I have a fairly good cache of .22LR so I don’t have to go through THAT madness again.

I have a healthy supply of what I reload for as well, at least for a time, although a few more pounds of powder wouldn’t hurt. These particular items always lag behind guns and ammo in terms of panic buying disappearance. If it looked like it was going to hit the fan, I feel I could remedy any deficiencies rather quickly.

I am pretty good but still buy one for one when I buy ammo, one for shooting one for storage and I do not shoot my stash at all.

Man, I am ready.

More is always better. I am sitting exactly where I sat for many years. Rotating stock as I use it first in first out.

I've been resupplying my reloading stock as I find components. My concerns right now are to get my grandson geared up now, prices are right stocks are good and he is under 5 years old. I could simply divide my own but what fun is that?

I suspect that many if not most of us here would reply with being prepared. With that being the case, it would somewhat imply that any future panic could very well be much more mild in nature than what we experienced in the prior 10 years because the additional preparedness would somewhat tame the "panic demand" of a future occurrence, unless of course people start getting complacent again and/or newcomers to the sport/hobby/self-defense firearms community don't take heed.

The thing is that there was an additional dynamic in play during the last two which you could say actually ran end to end with each other making it more like one long one. I know from first hand in-store observations and experience, and observing patterns and certain people on sites like gunbroker and even other forums and social media, that there was in fact a population of non-gun owner participation in the higher demand, driving prices up and increasing the scarcity simply to resell the items. Much like what happens when a new game console or other highly sought after consumer device comes out, there were people that were participating in buying these items either out of political and/or financial motivations to purposely drive up the prices and profit from them and even with a little spite thrown in for good measure. Again, I personally observed numerous instances of this being the case including at more than one Wal-Mart sporting goods counter as well as more than one person bragging about buying ammo to sell and make a profit on "us".

As Para is frequently reminding us, "It's quiet." Plan accordingly and the next one won't really be one. My personal philosophy is to have an amount that you feel comfortable with, then add 10 to 20% to that for a given caliber you use more frequently, finances permitting of course. Once there, keep that amount always in reserve and replace what you use whether it is several boxes or even more practically and typically cost effective one case intervals, as you use your older inventory first, except for rare instances where some older loads are more preferable to keep in reserve. That works for me and I'm sticking to it.

Maybe not one of the magnitude of post-Sandy Hook, but a panic is possible while Trump is in office.

I expect to see one at mid-term elections.

Any point of political uncertainty (even partial uncertainty) is ripe grounds for panic.

Also, panics do not have to be national. The President isn't as able to defend from state-level anti-gun legislation as he can on the national level.

Easily a year, probably more like 5 years. Maybe 10 years if I went lean or moved to more 22LR shooting, plus started reloading (just need the equipment).

My pants weren't down after SH, but I did get caught in the middle of 2 SBR builds (1 re-build, 1 new build). That kind of sucked and I paid some higher prices to finished them off.

I have certainly upped my game after that and the run up to the 2016 election.

I could probably not buy ammo for years and be OK. As soon as I see any bareness on my shelf I order another case. It's what happens when your an ammoholic. See a good deal, buy. See prices going up, buy. Mass shooting, buy. Room for more ammo, buy.

Actually its the good deals around these days that are driving me crazy. I gotta fix a floor, see, and I haven't seen 9mm and .45 prices like the ones we're seeing now for a while.

Being a handloader for all the calibers that I shoot, except, of course .22cal, I have laid up a good supply of components. Another panic will not affect me in any way. Having gone through some really scarce times on multiple occasions, has taught me to plan ahead, and be prepared.

I still have primers from the first panic in the late 90's

I have enough for my lifetime. I'm sure my kids will have some left over after I'm gone.

I have enough primers and powder for 5 to 7k in each pistol caliber I have. I've got 100ish pmags still in the package. I could use extra glock mags.


I have ammo stacked chest high in a coat closet.
35-40k 5.45x39. Probably over 10k in 5.56. Around 3k of 7.62x39

I do not have enough ammo to keep me up for a year. I simply do not have the storage space. But, I do have priority with a small manufacturer. I have enough rifle and pistol magazines for my common pistols to last for the next 100 years. I have 50-75 of the majors (Glock 17, M&P 9, 226) that are still in the package and not in the 6-10 magazines I keep for each for training.

When I see a good deal on magazines, plus free shipping, I buy even though I don't need them. Brownells constantly runs deals on OEM Glock, M&P, and 226 magazines on the cheap in a three pack with free shipping. Every now and then you see Palmetto with really great prices $15-$18 per mag plus free shipping. I bought 20 M&P mags from them last fall for $11 each plus free shipping.

I have about 20k of 9/5.56 combined. And I buy ammo monthly, but most of what I buy I burn.

Speaking of stocking up, and Palmetto, they have a Daily Deal for D&H AR mags at $6.99 each before shipping. I have found them to be as good as, if not better than any US surplus mags.
