Last new car I bought was an '06 GTO, still in the garage.

Everything since then (8-10 cars) has been used, or slightly used. Not worth the depreciation hit to buy new.

I absolutely hate buying cars from dealers. I have a very low tolerance for BS, stupidity and liars. And dealerships usually have an abundance of all 3. The last 2 I bought towards the end of the year. I got good deals with very little BS and frustration.

I got my 2018 Nissan Titan XD in January 2019. Factory was offering 13k in rebates right off the bat. I was a little limited on choices but was still able to get what I wanted.

Our 2012 Camry was bought in August of that year. Toyota had good deals along with 0% for 60 months.

1998 Acura Integra Type R. Brand new and so cool. Wish I still had it.

Bought used, usually less than 30k miles and a few model years old. Lease turn ins basically.
I find myself wanting one of the new Civic sports. With the 2020 refresh making some improvements I really like and the general lack of used manual trans vehicles, I will probably end up with my first new car at the end of the year. I will also likely drive it for 10 years, so depreciation isn't as big an issue.
If I were in the market for a "fun" car, that would probably have to be used. Can't justify a new vehicle that isn't daily transport.

UPDATE. I posted this last August. Today I bought my first brand new car that is meant for me to drive. (If my wife doesn’t take it away from me.)

Congrats. The only thing better than that new car smell is that new car smell off the next new car.

Now that I think about it most of my cars have been used,but the one I drive my new Chrysler 300 S had 37 miles on it when I brought it.

I have only bought one new vehicle for me.

1999 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab 4x4. Bought it in December of 1998. Got rid of it in 2001 when traded it on a Tahoe.

Out of 6 fleet vehicles I've had since I've been with my employer, 4 of them have been brand new.

Yes probably 12 new cars in my 40 years and a bunch of lightly used ones. I’ve never had a car with more then 40k miles on it except for my first car at the age of 17. I like cars. I generally get good deals online and travel to acquire them. I wait In til the end of the month or until a new model is going to be released. I look at how long a car has been on the lot etc... Some cars are best used like a 2 year old BMW. Let the first guy or gal take the depreciation hit, others not so much. For instance a 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited Sahara with low miles will cost you $32k but right now with Jeep employee pricing for all you can get a brand new one for $36k. Plus you get better rates on new cars if you finance. Jeep currently has 0% for 36 months. The same can be said for Tacoma‘s and F150’s...for late model examples you can find better deals at time on the new models with incentives then 2-3 year old ones with none. CPO’s are always marked up with warranties that don’t really matter. Oooooh you get a 60k mile warranty on a Lexus or Toyota that you will use never. Sure for a BMW or a MB a warranty is good but for the markup on the CPO you can get an after market warranty with money to spare.

I started with used cars because that’s all I could afford and I was young. They were unreliable. When I got my first decent job out of the Navy, I bought a brand new Mazda GLC.

Then I bought a new Maxima.

The next two cars I bought, I paid with funds I already had - a Honda Accord then a Lexus Gs350. It was a milestone for my wife and I to realize when the sales guy asked us how much did we have for a down payment that we didn’t even planned for it.

We liked new cars for the reliability and peace of mind that we know the history including maintenance. My aim has always been to put 300,000 miles before getting rid of it but it’s usually 250k. We either donate it or give it to someone.

The last car I bought was a 3 year old Lexus. I was comfortable with the reliability issue and I wanted to keep my Lexus advisor.

Yes, I have bought many brand new cars for myself. I have bought used cars for myself. It's a facts and circumstances thing.

As others have mentioned, the price differential between a new F150 and a 3 year old F150 is usually minimal, so I get the new F150. That way I get it equipped the way I want it, and don't pay extra for leather seats or a sunroof, which I don't want. I also know how to get a good deal at the new car dealer, which is to know when the factory is dealing. Like right now.

I keep most vehicles over 10 years, so that helps.

I counted the cars I have owned since I started driving. I am 63 and have purchased 34 cars. Some new, some used and some barely running..all depends on circumstances.
MY last 4 new cars have been trucks.
I don't aspire to paying off a car with cash. Unless its under $15K. With low interest rate for new vehicles I make way more money in the stock market with the $40K-$60K than I ever would from paying for a truck up front. Its just not good business to do that. My current vehicle is a 2019 Tacoma.

Once. A 1998 GMC Sonoma. I paid it off in 2002 and I still have it. My daily driver is a 1999 Isuzu Trooper I bought a few years ago with cash.

I’ll likely buy one more new or lightly used car before I die. I plan on giving the Trooper to my son when he turns 16 in a few years and getting me something made in this millennium

It started in 2006 when I had bought a used Pontiac and the car was just a turd. It was lightly used but multiple things went wrong with a car that had less than average mileages for its age. It was a 2003 Grand Prix GT, pretty nice car. Pully seized and snapped the belt. Knobs would break, and I felt a sense the car wasn’t reliable.

Traded it in, took a bath on it doing so. Ended up with a new Scion tC with a 5 speed manual and that was the first new car I bought. It’s been mostly new since. I know everyone here likes to say they depreciate too fast but when we bought our Kia new and it came with the warranty, they replaced part of the exhaust system under warranty which would’ve cost me $3,000.

Up until I moved to Florida 20 years ago I worked for a company that provided me with a company truck. The owner of the company would let people with company truck to use them for limited personal use. There would be times that my car would sit for weeks so we always bought my wife the new car.

Last New Year’s Eve I got a brand new Toyota Tundra. Pricing after incentives was within 10% of any decent used one in the area, so it was a no brainer.

Around my area we have a lot of dirt roads, most of them get very rough. I see so many people driving new cars like idiots on rough roads and I think to myself, wonder how many of these are lease cars? Some of those leased cars have to be beat to pieces. Scared me out of buying cars that might be off lease.
Lots of private owners also beat the cars/trucks all to hell.

I prefer to buy new so that I control it's use & maintenance. I usually try to keep them around 10 years. Had my last truck 16 years with less then 100k and the current truck is about 8 years old, less then 60k on it. I guess it will last a few more years.
I pay cash and save the "payments" as I go so I have the cash for the next one.

Yes, a 1998 Acura Integra Type R. Only came in Championship white that year. Oh man was that a special day and I loved that car. Wish I still had it today but it was stolen and stripped 2 years after purchase.

We bought an '04 Hyundai Elantra brand new back in 2004 as the back gave us a better interest rate on the new car vs. used.

We still have that car, our kid is driving it with 168k on the odometer.

We bout a 2017 Ford Escape brand new, plan to keep it until 2027.

I bought my Pathfinder used, but that only gets used to pull the trailer or making dump/utility runs.

My wife has had 5 new cars since we’ve been married. The closest I’ve come is a 2008 F150 I got in 2013. It’s just hard to spend that kind of money on something for me, that sees 5 or 6000 miles per year.

Although I did get a new motorcycle in 1988, and I still have it.
