Hey Ford, I don't want a Truck!
I say good riddance. Ford, or for that matter GM, doesn't make a sedan that I would buy. I'm admittedly a truck/SUV guy because they generally work better for what I want but I absolutely will not consider buying a sedan that is front wheel drive. Front wheel drive is a lazy, cheap way to build a soulless, under performing car and if I'm going to spend money on a sedan in addition to my truck or SUV, it's going to be because that car drives and handles well. I just would not be willing to spend my money on a sedan from Ford or GM because they just don't appeal to me. I would (and in the recent past did) consider adding a sedan to the stable, but the only American manufacturer that I considered was Dodge, because of the Charger. I know I'm far from alone in those feelings as well.

There is a bit of self-fulfillment here though. Ford has not put a decent sedan on the market in my lifetime. Outside of the Taurus that is.

Granada? 500? Escort? Contour? Tempo? Fairlane(modern)? Fairmont? And any number of variants of the taurus don't count.

Compare that with the Fusion, Crown Vic (I don't like it tho), Galaxy, Thunderbird(ruined it!), Torino. The fusion is the closest thing they've had to a success in the sedan market and they ruined that vehicle with is crappy engine, crappy transmission, and cheap interior. It was so crappy it became an instant success in the fleet-vehicle market.

Ford has very little understanding of the sedan market and what buyers want. Nissan, Toyota redefined that market, the Europeans refined the market, and now the Americans are ignoring the market because they can't figure out how to put together a good-looking sedan that has a quality interior and a decent drive-train.

I wasn’t happy when they announced they would stop making cars to focus on trucks and SUVs but they are going to make what sells.

Ford like any other company is not fully worried about what the customer WANTS but what people will ACTUALLY BUY makes them more money. And what customers want does not always equate to what makes them more money.

Also Ford is still going to make sedans they are just under the Lincoln brand not sure why people are so hung up over this.
Has anyone ever griped that GMC has never made a car/sedan EVER?? No, they just got a Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, or Oldsmobile (well apparently not enough folks bought the last two).

I believe you're right although in the case of the old Ranger sales had been declining. Ford interpreted that it was because there was a lack of interest in mid size trucks. Just like Harley interpreted there was little demand for a water cooled motorcycle since the one they had (V Rod) didn't sell well.
IMO the reason sales were sluggish was because the marketing teams at both Ford and Harley misinterpreted. The Ranger was very dated, Ford had been updating and concentrating all their innovation into their full size trucks which even delivered about the same MPG. And Harley put a pretty good water cooled motor into a chassis that was an ergonomic disaster.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Can they offer it in an SHO trim? Big Grin

The MKZ has the SHO motor but not the suspension. I'm not sure about the transmission.

After I went new car shopping last year, I spent all day at a ford dealership trying cars out. It was a sad and depressing experience.

I own a shit ton of Ford stock for the nice dividend, so I figured I’d throw them some business, but all the cars sucked, and I wasn’t impressed with the MKZ either.

Drove over to the Mazda dealership and bought me a sweet Mazda 3 before they closed.

I have a truck, but really like to have a 4 door sedan too. Nothing like a nice rear wheel drive sedan with some power and good handling. When I began looking for one when I retired I thought an entry level “luxury performance car” would fit the ticket. All american manufs had to offer was front wheel dr. Front wheel dr performance car is an oxymoron. Only the really expensive brands had them (Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Infin ect.)

Got a Genesis. RWD, 6 cyl, 330HP, great handling for a lot less. Little maint too. Never looked back.

I've never owned a 4-wheeled vehicle that was not made by Ford. I drove my previous Daily Driver (1986 Mustang GT) for 20 years and bought a 2006 Mustang GT, which I've now driven for more than 12 years (and it's still going strong). I briefly had a 1977 F-150 with a 460cid engine that I dearly loved (but it was stolen and not recovered). I have owned 7 automobiles since 1959 and averaged 8 years each.

I am not seeking a replacement for my 2006 Mustang at this time. For fun, I have a 1966 Mustang (not my first one) that I don't count in my list of DDs.

My current DD:

I firmly believe that the disappearance of rear wheel drive has definitely contributed to the move away from cars. If a car is going to suck to drive, plow into corners with serious understeer, and suffer from torque steer then you might as well have a crossover SUV that exhibits all of those traits but can haul more stuff, and is easier to get in and out of.

Guess I could add "Hey GM, I don't want a AWD SUV, give me a REAL 4WD SUV.

Give me 4 doors, a V6. An interior color other than that dogshit yellow you seem to adorn every sedan interior in.

I am a life long Ford customer. But you are walking away from me. Again. Yes, I am still pissed you killed the Crown Vic.

Am I all alone here? Regards 18DAI

Yes, you are. The Crown Vic was a ghastly piece of shit that should have been retired long before it was... Big Grin

As far as Ford cars, they've never made a rear-biased AWD sedan like the BMW 3 Series so I've never seriously looked at them for a car. Hell, it's probably a stunt to get people to go to a Lincoln dealer as you're getting the same car with little difference for an extra $5-15K on the sticker.

Completely agree. I've had more GM trucks than any other maker and I can honestly say that the only SUV from them that I would consider is a Tahoe or Suburban.

Even the police units are buying the Explorer over the Taurus by a sizable margin. Given they are built on the same subframe and lines, it makes business sense to concentrate on what the average consumer will purchase.

Bingo, they’ll make what sells for them. Trucks are big business, people are paying 60-70k for F350 diesels so somebody must want them.

Sedan sales have been so bad that Honda is dealing hard on Accords and Toyota dealing even harder on Camrys. People are buying CUV’s in droves. 150HP CVT POS good for nothing CUV’s. All the manus are replacing sedans with CUV’s. I don’t like it either even though I loathe sedans myself. Give me a hatchback or a truck. A sedan doesn’t have the utility a hatchback does.
