It was so easy it's mind boggling that no one thought of it before.

I literally laughed out loud. Does that make me a bad person?

What tripe. Roll Eyes But then it's purpose is not designed to stop any gang violence at all.

Brilliant alternative. Roll Eyes

When this doesn't work maybe Hardisty could look at using school crossing guards.

I love the irony of the following story regarding PPB officer retention; mutually exclusive topics.

City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty is a window licking moron. The inmates are running the asylum in Portland.

Why don't they try signs that say "OUTLAW FREE ZONE". Maybe "GUN FREE STREET"

I have an even better idea. They should send community activists and politicians out in the streets. As soon as they see a gang member preparing to shoot someone, they should step in front of them and employ holistic measures to calm the situation and prevent the shooting.

I’m sure the guy driving the car that just shot up a house, where they were attempting to murder someone in a drive by, is definitely concerned about following the law. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to hit a barrel. He probably wouldn’t enter the neighborhood since the sign says “local access only”.

When I was a kid, I had this piece of crap, old ‘72 Buick Skylark. It was good for playing garbage can pinball. Down the alleys at high speed, clipping trash cans and making a terrible mess.

Had there been hollow plastic barrels with signs on them… it would have been Buick bowling. Smack the barrel and see where it flies. Assign a point system prior. Cars are worth x, and over a car into a front yard is x points, broken glass us worth x…

Hardesty admitted there is “no simple solution” to the shooting spike recorded here and nationwide. Gun violence is going up even as other types of crime are decreasing.

What other crimes in Portland are decreasing???? seriously.

It appears as if the crime rate is going down, but this is only because people don't even bother to call any more for things like criminal mischief, minor theft, trespass (by the homeless), reckless driving complaints, etc. There's just no point.

But be careful when a politician says crime is going down. Just ain't true.

My first thought is that the City Commissioner has been watching too much Monty Python and smoking a bit too much weed. “Where? There behind the impenetrable plastic barrels?”

Hire the Korean shop owners from the Rodney King riots.
Hows that for a holistic solution?

I think it will work. What gangbanger wants to put a dent or scratch on the nice vehicle he just car-jacked?

Hmm…. My idea of “holistic solutions” is apparently far different. (No cost adoptions, aggressive removal of children from bad home environments, hard labor prison sentences and caning for youthful skulduggery.)

Interesting to know if Hardesty has family supplying the barrels to the city.
