tatortoddEDIT 06/14/24: US Supreme Court decision 6-3 OVERTURNING ATF bump stock ban!!
It's been a great week for the 2nd Amendment! Today, SCOTUS' decision on bump stocks, and
yesterday the US District Court in North Texas vacated the BATFE pistol brace rule in its entirety .

GT-40DOCI have never owned a bump stock, and likely never will, but those that want one should be able legally to own one.
I had not heard, until this very moment, that the US District Court had vacated the pistol brace rule in its entirety. That is excellent news. Oh happy day!!

nhtagmemberI had the equivalent from Atkins on my Ruger 10/22 and it was fun
it was a novelty
and then I got a letter from the ATF saying I had to send them the springs in the mail or I would be jailed for up to 25 years
thats when I lost what little remaining respect I ever may had had for the BATFuckers

911BossSOOOOooooo…
Will companies start selling them again? I never had one, I did bumpfire the old fashioned way by hooking my thumb in my belt loop.
At this point I might just buy one as a “Fuck you!” to those who would
infringe my rights, just as I did with my braces.
What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

This is not a case about the meaning of the Constitution. This is a case about statutory interpretation - namely whether a bump stock is a machine gun as defined by the gun control act.
The court is, essentially and without saying so, assuming that congress can regulate machine guns. That is not the same as making an explicit decision Congress can actually regulate machine guns, which isn't before the court in this case. This case is about whether a bump stock is, in fact a banned machine gun under the statute. The court decided it is not, which seems pretty straightforward given the words in the statute.
The fact that BATFE reversed itself on a long standing opposite interpretation did not help. It is unfortunate that BATF (an executive branch office) was used to ban bump stocks for political reasons, but it is wasn't the first time the executive did that and won't be the last.
Someone could bring a case that challenges whether machine guns can be regulated in the first place, which is not the question here. If that case came up, and the Supremes took it, I think they are likely to approve regulation of full auto, but you never know.
The Supremes will not make a decision on a constitutional basis unless they have to because the facts of the case require it to be decided on that constitutional ground. They prefer to make rulings on the narrowest grounds possible and only make "bigger" rulings when they have to. This has long been considered to be good and conservative jurisprudence.

pbslingerThe dissenters apparently can't figure out that a bump stock doesn't make a rifle fire more than one shot per press of trigger.

Gonna have to go out of state for it, we've been saved from the scourge of turning live ammo into a lot of smoke and noise since 2018 by our glorious legislature. It's just Commonsense™

In this case thanking Trump seems odd.

Some people like to get really hung up on the bump stock thing and 'take the guns first and due process second' thing, but I guarantee we wouldn't have this decision if Hillary had won and gotten her choice of three justices. So yeah, I'm thankful for Trump and I think it's odd not to recognize those circumstances.

I think they understand it just fine. All they're doing now is doubling down on the lefties' original stand, with their standard "If you repeat a lie often enough the people will believe it" logic.

Yeah....but that's not the point though, is it? Whatever.

Based upon my observations of scores of posts on Twitter, they're not even attempting to understand the mechanics of self-loading rifles, of the definition of a machine gun, or the law governing machine guns. If they made an effort to understand, they would still object on "moral" grounds.
Wilful ignorance and obstinance to that degree makes it pointless to attempt to reason with these people. You can ignore them or you can laugh at them or condescend to them, but that's about all.
