Would using a gun to stop the attack be legal in Detroit? Where I live I would have shot the dog with no repercussions.

"Any animal that shall attack a man has forfeit it's right to live." - H&K-Guy, -Feb 24, 2019.

I say kill the dog immediately, and charge the owner for the bullets.

I only ponder what would happen if the dog had a badge...

But then that's a little too deep for a Sunday afternoon.

Killing that dog would have been an act of morality. At this point, forget the laws. Someone is in danger of death or great bodily harm. Kill that dog.

No reason it wouldn't be legal to shoot in that situation, but I'm assuming postal employees aren't allowed to carry on duty.

No question about it, dead dog. I would have choked that dog till its neck broke before I'd take a continuous chewing on.

Step #1: Shoot the dog.
Step #2: Find the owner(s) and shoot them.

This animal was only a problem because some dumbass allowed it to develop into a problem for everyone else. Hope the postman recovered well from his injuries.

Would I use a gun? Damn right I would. I have seen the results of a dog attack on a young girl who is scarred for life.

This is exactly my thought as well. That was an insane dog who could done some very serious damage to the carrier.

100% legal to shoot that dog. What choice would you really have?

If that's a Pitbull or American Bulldog, no you wouldn't have. Those breads are far too powerful and muscle laden to be choked into submission. Very little short of a fatal blow will cause them to detach.

Again, I have a neighbor with a 100 pound American Bulldog that loves everyone and everything, but that dog was raised by a focused, responsible owner. I assure you, the dog in the video has had 'zero' positive training by anyone.

Jim, that dog was not insane. He likely did exactly as he's been taught or allowed to behave by a completely irresponsible owner. The dog is a problem only because of the owner. I wish the dog owner could be arrested and jailed for the behavior of their animal. Maybe then they themselves would behave differently.

Well, thank gawd they ticketed the owner....

Can't say I've ever heard of a similar event going on for this long down in MS, but then by the time 4 or 5 minutes passed, there'd maybe be 6 or 7 guns on site. I feel for the postal carrier.

The video was almost 5 minutes and the guy was already down when it started.
No sign of police or other armed help. If the dog had his neck instead of his shoe he would have been lights out.

Yes, likely a couple of near contact shots to the chest area or a knife to the throat.
