BRUSSELS, Belgium — The European Commission reaffirmed the Polish parliament's right to appoint judges to the country's top court on Nov. 1, a clear alignment with the center-right government of Donald Tusk. Tusk's government is fighting to bring the country's legal system back to EU standards, after the previous Law and Justice Party (PiS) government put the judiciary under its political control, causing the EU to initiate a legal procedure against Warsaw in 2017. "The appointment of eight new members of the Constitutional Tribunal lies within the constitutional power of the Sejm (Poland's parliament)," a Commission spokesperson told the Kyiv Independent. The spokesperson also mentioned that the Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights "issued interim measures obliging the competent Polish authorities to refrain from hindering the taking up and exercise of judicial duties by judges appointed by the Sejm." Democratic backsliding by Poland under PiS and Hungary under its previous Prime Minister Viktor Orban led the EU to introducing annual rule-of-law reviews across the bloc, and to it demanding far more safeguards from countries wishing to join the EU, such as Ukraine. Poland's President Karol Nawrocki, who also hails from PiS, refused to hear the newly appointed judges swear their oaths, in an attempt to turn what is usually a procedural step into a permanent block on the appointees being able to begin work. The stand-off came to a head on Oct. 30 when the most senior of the new appointees took charge of the Constitutional Tribunal. That move was immediately followed by a stand-off between PiS politicians and supporters, parties further to their right, and the police. Jarosław Kaczynski, the PiS leader who masterminded the politicization of the Constitutional Tribunal, accused Tusk's government of turning Poland into a police state and called for continued protests. "From today, Poland is becoming a police state, and from there it's a straight path to authoritarianism, and then to totalitarianism," Kaczynski wrote on X. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski explained the situation from the government's perspective via social media on Oct. 31. "Our populist opposition is unfortunately refusing to accept its loss of control over the Tribunal," Sikorski wrote. "The democratically elected government will continue to uphold the constitution," Sikorski said. https://kyivindependent.com/eu...tional-court-crisis/ __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Here’s a more informative and a how/who did what/when/why about it. It’s a rather long article, so click link to understand more. https://www.americanthinker.co...-waterloo-in-warsaw/ The EU Met Its Waterloo In Warsaw EU-supported politicians attempted a coup d’etat in Poland and lost due to the bravery of the Polish president Karol Nawrocki and the thousands of Poles who support him. While the news is scattered and the incidents fresh, it appears the EU-supported politicians attempted a coup d’etat in Poland and lost due to the bravery of the Polish president Karol Nawrocki and the thousands of Poles who support him. The international press is largely silent as this significant setback for the EU unfolds, but thanks to Elon Musk, X is covering it well. Anyone got a reliable source of what is going on in Poland? Social media is saying some wild stuff about armed Germans invading Poland. That last sentence shouldn't be treated as fact at this point. When I try to verify those claims, I get nowhere. Beagle lives matter. ______ (\ / @\_____ / ( ) /O / ( )______/ ///_____/

Grok query: Was there an attempted coup in Poland today? Grok response: No, there was no attempted coup in the conventional sense (military or armed overthrow of the government). What has been unfolding is a serious constitutional crisis over control of Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal (TK), with the opposition and suspended court leadership labeling the government’s actions a “coup d’état” or “forcible takeover.” What happened The crisis peaked on Friday, October 30, 2026 (and continued into November 1): • Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska (elected by the Sejm majority under PM Donald Tusk’s government but not sworn in by President Karol Nawrocki) ordered the one-month suspension of Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy. She declared herself acting head, citing obstruction of the court’s functioning. An announcement appeared on the Tribunal’s website. • Święczkowski (an appointee of the previous Law and Justice/PiS government) and the Tribunal leadership rejected this, calling it an illegal takeover of the website and a “coup d’état.” They said the president and vice-president remained in office. • President Nawrocki (PiS-aligned, elected in 2025) turned his plane around mid-flight to Senegal and returned to Warsaw. He went to the Tribunal building, and his camp described the events as a “forcible takeover of a constitutional body” and a breach of public order. • Protests by PiS supporters gathered outside the court in Warsaw. There were clashes with police (objects thrown, some people trying to enter the grounds), a few detentions, and a police presence (including riot police) to secure the area. No large-scale violence or military involvement was reported. This stems from a years-long dispute over the rule of law and judicial appointments. The previous PiS government was widely criticized (including by the EU) for politicizing the Tribunal. Tusk’s pro-European government has sought to reverse that; Nawrocki has refused to swear in some Sejm-elected judges, creating a standoff over who legitimately sits on the court. Tusk’s side frames the suspension as restoring a lawfully functioning court; the opposition calls it an illegal power grab. As of November 1, the situation was at an impasse, with further developments expected (including a potential court session around November 3). Serious about crackers.

https://fatelephant.com/2026/1...civil-war-in-poland/ Former Prime Minister Warns of Potential Civil War in Poland as a Psychotic EU Is Silent November 1, 2026 M Dowling Poland’s pro-EU Prime Minister reportedly attempted a judicial coup by suspending the top justice of the Constitutional Tribunal, while the president was 35,000 ft in the air over Spain. A former Prime Minister warns of a civil war risk. The EU is silent because Prime Minister Donald Tusk appears to be forcing their will on the Polish people. It Could Devolve Into Civil War Mario Nawfal sat down with former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, a fierce opponent of Prime Minister Tusk. Morawiecki spent hours at the Tribunal speaking out against what he sees as an unprecedented assault on Polish democracy. “We sit on a barrel of powder. It can escalate very, very strongly over the next days and weeks…,” he said. Civil War is a decided possibility because Tusk wants to escalate the whole situation and will not give in on controlling the Tribunal. Nawfal compares it to Lula’s actions in Brazil. Making judges an arm of the presidency is a typical communist tactic. The former Prime Minister agreed and said that “the loss of the judicial system is something communists must do.” Tusk is bringing in reinforcements against those protesting, blaming Russia, and refusing to lower the temperature. Polish police officers are allegedly beginning to defy orders from the Tusk government en masse. Reports indicate a revolt and extremely low morale. A police union accuses the government of using the police for political purposes and opposes the actions of those in power. Some reports indicate that the government is currently sending in special agents and intelligence personnel to disrupt protests from within. Protesters demand Tusk be handed over to them. Morawiecki Sizes Up the Situation Tusk waited until President Nawrocki left for Senegal, then went in. He wants to pack the Tribunal with loyalist judges, bypass the presidential veto, and rewrite Poland’s legal system without a constitutional majority. Morawiecki calls it a brazen power grab, one with no parallel in post-1989 European history. Patriots have been holding the line outside the Tribunal ever since, with a massive police presence still there. Morawiecki hopes it doesn’t descend into civil war, but it might. It goes beyond Poland. The woman who should have been president of Romania sits in prison, says Nawful. Both agree that whenever anyone defies or defeats the Left, they attack. Elections are coming up in France, Italy, Poland, and this is why they are making their move now, says Morawiecki. If Tusk succeeds in taking over the Tribunal (the Highest Court), the former Prime Minister says they will have a quasi-dictatorship. Morawiecki believes Tusk is also using this to divert attention from his large deficit, high unemployment, and public debt. He said the debt is spiraling out of control.
