LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - "Three people are in custody after Lake County deputies say two people were injured in a shooting on the St. Johns River in Astor.

It happened on Saturday at around 4:35 p.m.

Deputies said they were called to the river in the area of the Midway Marina after reports of a shooting between groups of people who were boating and jet skiing.

There, investigators said they found a man and woman with life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds....

In a news conference on Saturday night, Lake County deputies said a total of eight people were involved.

Officials said the altercation was like a "road rage" incident that took place on the water.

Investigators said the incident involved one party on a boat with three jet skis and another party, a father and son, on a fishing boat.

It's unclear who the aggressors were and who was acting in self-defense, according to officials as of Saturday night. (emphasis mine)

They did say something was yelled about boat speed and it escalated from there."

So, 'three people are in custody' but "no arrests have been made." Confused Did any idiotor editor even proofread this article before publishing? lol.

You may want to follow this event as more reports come out. It maybe be very Apparently, the whole thing was video-ed, and it may be very clear who were the aggressors and who was acting in self defense.
The authorities are (properly) keeping their cards close to their chest at this point.

Soooooo ... When you boat, are you carrying? Handguns only, or long guns? What kind of sights? Yes, I refer to the always entertaining popular optics versus irons question.

Yes. Back when I used to boat every weekend there was always a firearm onboard but it was more to shoot at cottonmouths than protect myself. We were in backwater, super shallow waters where we rarely ever encountered fellow boaters.

Yes. We occasionally launch the boat in Astor. Many people visit the area for access to Silver Glen Springs. That stretch of the St. John’s River has several “no-wake” zones, and boats are required to throttle down to ~idle speed.

On weekends, organized groups of PWCs (often from Orlando) launch and visit the springs. Often these groups disregard the posted no-wake signs. These groups frequent the springs to party, sometimes leaving copious amounts of garbage behind. I’m not surprised by the shooting.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

PWC is just another way of saying jet ski or small (typically jet drive) craft. I don’t like the term PWC because really any craft that’s my personal craft could be considered a personal water craft.

PWC’s are the noseeums of the boating world. Especially all the damn rentals around here. And rental pontoon boats also.

I hate when the boss wants to go into Destin harbor during the summer because of all the morons on these things!

Yes, when I had my boats there was always a Winchester Marine 12 gauge on board. We used it to dispatch sharks but also in case we had an issue off shore. I did have a friend take it out once when we were approached by a go fast at 0630.

Until I lost my boat in my divorce, I always carried a gun when on the water.

But then I always carried everywhere I went, so it was no different.

PWC's, I've heard them referred to as Lake Lice.

One of the times when I carry decently large firearm, visibly.

Other boaters are significantly more polite when they see that you are armed.
