25 series tires Eek

Would have been truly great for GM to offer a manual in this gen. Such a shame. Save the manuals!

Trying to decide how to word this…

The C8 is indeed an impressive super car; I would own one if I could. That said, I think its styling is too angular to be called “beautiful.”

Beautiful is a Ferrari 812, an Aston Martin DBS, a Maserati MC20, and the classic 911. Lines evoking the female form. That’s just me. The performance is astounding though.

Corvettes are (and have been) high performance, highly competitive, sports cars. At ~ $50K/$60K, they held their own against Ferraris, Porches, McLarens, etc.
The reason that Corvettes were not $150K - $200K in the past is because the quality and materials used in the interior/seats was crap.
The C8 finally addressed that problem with better quaility/materials and seats that actually hold you in place.

As far as aesthetics go, there is one word as to why all of these 200+ MPH "supercars" look similar, Aerodynamics.

At that price, they were affordable enough that I've considered buying one.

That may be true... but these cars aren't handcrafted.
At $150K most people can't even consider buying one.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I think throughout the years, Corvettes were outside of most peoples budget.
i.e. a "Dream car".

It was always a "dream" of mine to own one. It finally happened in 2006

Even for $150k the price/performance ratio is outstanding. The base Vette at MSRP is easily the most sports car for the money that has ever existed. It's a damn shame that it launches right at the start of the COVID bullshit. Some day, 5-7 year old C8 Stingrays will be the an amazing used market option.

$150k.

I remember being a kid of the 80’s reading the car mags and fantasizing about ‘some day’.

All on what you choose to spend your money on I supposed, but that’s money I cannot not even pretend to touch.

I can ‘afford’ the occasional $40 cigar or a watch that might cost a few thousand dollars.

A $150k car? Not even an option to pretend anymore.

Makes me a little sad, actually.

Hard to beat a black Z06. That's the first set of wheels I've seen that look good on the C8. GM needs to hire some wheel designers. Big Grin

I want to thank the OP for posting the pictures, etc. on the ZO6 vette. I had read about it, but not seen any pictures of it. I have been into vettes for many decades now, and still have my '79 model convertible. I like the looks of the ZO6, and the performance, but the price is out of my league.

Thank you, Big Swede, for posting this. I've not typically been a Corvette fan, despite my very early exposure to a sweet 1962 model. But this new version really gets my attention!

I noticed on the sticker image you posted there's a gas guzzler tax. How crummy is the fuel economy on that?

God bless America.

The Z06 was never meant to be affordable or available for the masses. When the base Corvette was about $40K, the Z06 was around $70-80K. It was only the base Corvette that was designed for the masses, and at around $60K, you won't find a less expensive mid engined car that will perform just as good.

12/21. It's the most powerful V8 on the market without a super/turbocharger.

They wanted to, but there is no one currently making a manual transmission for a mid engine car that can handle 470 lb-ft of torque in the base Corvette much less the more powerful models that are still on the way. I think the only mid engine car that has a manual is the Cayman GT4 and it's only running about 310 lb-ft.

agree, the ZR1 was the same way when it first came out, and in the C7 version, higher trim and optioned out performance editions bring big money.

However the base model 1Lt is not affordable, it's now a market price $80K car, the sticker $60K isn't close to what you have to pay today.

Reference the earlier post where a 3 year old 3K mile 2020 1LT is listed at $90K plus at the same dealer..

Except GM has no control over dealers that add markups to their vehicles and don't get any kickback from those that price gouge. About all Gm can do about it is lower their allocation.

In some states, Franchise laws prohibit that as well, the dealer lobby is strong, and while I agree that GM can't control the prices, the fact is, there are no base price C8's for sale, doesn't matter who priced it.

It's going to be interesting how this plays out with all the over priced cars on the market and the loans for massive bump prices, when they end, and it will, some folks are going to be surprised when their $90K 1LT isn't worth near what they have in debt on it, and it's not just the C8, it's anyone paying big upcharges.

Do people take out loans to buy Corvettes? The people I see driving them are in the "you can’t take it with you” crowd.

I do ask all of the old Vette guys I run in to. "Did you get that optional dash mounted Viagra dispenser?"

I am constantly amazed by the numbers modern sports cars are able to put out and the performance is even more incredible.

I used to drive my 400+ RWHP car to the limit and it scared the shit out of me. I should have died on 3 different occasions. I can't imagine having one of these or anything like it in its class.
