I sure hope so. 50 bps would make the old acoustic-coupled modems feel speedy.

Yeah, but you'd written "50bps," omitting the "M" Smile

Since this offering is so new, you're not likely going to get much, if any, usable feedback. Closest I can come is this: T-Mobile had a "flash sale" thing a couple years ago where on one weekend they were giving away a free line for qualifying plans. We qualified.

Oddly enough, the free line qualified for a free bump from 2GB/mo., which our phones have, to six. Never did understand why that was, but was happy to take it Smile

I put the SIM in a NetGear LTE modem and use it for an automatic Internet connection fail-over for our home network. It actually gets better download speeds than our 50mb/s Comcast service and has been reliable.

The only way I've ever been able to tell we've been on the fail-over connection is the email notifications our router sends me.

Depending on your area this might be a great plan, I have had TMO for almost 20 years and they have been steadily improving over the years.

It will be LTE/4G as their 5G rollout is really just beginning.

Where I live now it would not really work for me as I know where the only tower is local to me as I build the site for TMO years ago and coverage is "ok" but not great

Maybe. Maybe not. An LTE modem, unlike your mobile phones, sits at a fixed location. Our coverage here in the ensigmatic household is just "ok." Adequate, but that's about it. (It has improved, though. We now have mostly solid service even in the basement, which used to be mostly a dead zone.) But a modem sits in a fixed location, which you can optimize. E.g.: I acquired one of the higher-rated external antennas for our LTE modem and positioned it optimally. The modem gets a rock-solid 2 bars out of five, which is apparently enough to give us all the bandwidth we need from the thing.

One thing to look at is the "Prioritization limit"

Sure there is no cap on how much you can download a month, but how many gigs do you get at "high speed" before you are kicked down to 3G speed instead at which point - it gets really slow.

I have a similar situation with AT/T and I fortunately have no throttle limits due to sweet talking the people at the office and complaining about it the moment it happened.

Throttling is worse than hitting a cap IMO because it just sits there and teases you with the possibility of maybe getting to a page.

I had the throttle issue several years ago when I had Verizon wireless internet so I am familiar with the concept.
Been trying to find out more, was told 4g full time. Also, looks like it might be in the bata stage.
We have been hotspotting off our phones for the last couple of years which is 3g speed. No cable available here, only satellite which is expensive.

Thanks

If all you're getting on your phones is 3G, then likely that's all you got. That would be surprising, though, because I had thought TMO's entire network would've been upgraded to 4G by now. Even when we go into Michigan's north woods hinterland we rarely drop out of 4G, these days.

Then again: What kind(s) of phones? If they're not new enough to take advantage of some of TMO's more recent band allocations that could be (part of) your problem.

I use unlimited4Glte.com for unlimited WiFi hotspots (ATT grandfathered devices ) . We have 2 at $75/month each. We are about to add a third. They get quirky sometimes and the distance the cover is the biggest issue. But we have our options other than satellite. So with PS Vue we will be at $290/month. Expensive but it works almost as good as cable. Can’t wait for 5g.

These go to eleven.

Agreed, if the modem has a external ant or an amplifier it would be better. If not the current RSSI levels are iffy, I have used my TMO hot spot and it barely supports video conferencing but that may be port restrictions.

Since I don't the RF eng/Switch tech I can't ask them

You might want to try this offer if you're on a network other than T-mobile right now.

T-Mobile’s amped up Test Drive lets you try out the network for 30 days

You can test out the data speeds in your area for 30 days to see how it works for you.

4g data on the phone data usage but when you hotspot it is only 3g.

I've never seen nor heard of that before. It certainly has never happened on my phone.

Thanks for the link. I signed up and will try it out. $50 a month is more than I am paying for internet now. Thinking of switching to Tmobile for our cell service anyway.
