how much ram needed to run two browsers on an android tablet? Login/Join

My Samsung tablet has 4gb of ram.

I like to have Firefox and Brave running together sometimes, but stability has been an issue. One or the other will just stop working, and it seems to be happening more frequently. I tried clearing the cache from both - still no joy.

Is it just not enough ram, or something else?

Also, if anyone can tell me how (if possible) to get the number buttons off my keyboard I'd be most grateful.

4GB is pretty minimal these days and if you are doing thing like streaming video, the I might expect issues.

On the other hand if the browser demands are light, like just text, then one would expect it to be ok.

4GB is enough for web browsing , even with multiple windows open.
A little more couldn't hurt but you may not notice much difference.
From your problem I would look at the quality of your network connection primarily.
Other factors are the drive (Spin vs SSD vs M2), processor speed.
The latter are not usually a fiscally responsible upgrade unless it is a top tier ($$$) product.

OP says Tablet, but also seems to have a physical keyboard Confused

Would be curious if it's even possible to upgrade the RAM or storage on it.

No, not physical keyboard. Just looking to ditch the row of numbers off the keyboard that pops up. Keep hitting numbers instead of letters without slowing to snail pace typing.

Ah, gotcha. There may be a downloadable keyboard that has the number row grouped in with the symbols, like an Apple

There are plenty of alternate keyboard apps in the playstore. I have been off Android long enough that I cannot make a specific recommendation, but I installed maybe a dozen or so back in the day, some were much nicer than the standard one.

WRT upgrading RAM, depends on the maufacturer and model of tablet, but if it is newer than five years old or so, or even tries to be "thin" for its generation, the RAM is probably soldered in or part of the SoC (system on chip, a combo chip that performs almost all the work and includes the CPU). So, probably not.

Why do you need 2 browsers running at the same time? Can't you just open multiple tabs in the same browser?

Not that it matters but perhaps that is what he was referring to.
Same difference.

It's actually more like just any two things at the same time causes instability. Two tabs, two browsers, or a game and one tab etc.

Wasn't always this way on this same tablet, and I have no such issues on my laptop.

There's always the reset function and see if that works to bring it back to like new and fresh.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I'm just gonna walk in here and shit all over the nice, new white 100% alpaca carpet.

You will never buy a PC that will not suffer from lag, buffering "high resource utilization" or any other expression of shit experience.

It.
Ain't.
Never.
Gonna.
Get.
Better.

Suck it.

I have been working in computers from 1980, until I pulled the fucking handle in the end of 2019.

I worked in the USAF from the early 80s, and with DARPA in the mid 80s, and after retiring from the USAF in the early 90s, then worked again in the mid and late 90s with DARPA and Microsoft, and later in the late 90s with Human/Machine interface, and beyond.

I spent 27 years in another career that ended in the last quarter of 2019 involved in various disciplines in security, AI and similar fields.

All of that said (for those that don't tap put for "TLDR" and the 2 second reveal) to state that no matter how much money you throw at "current" technology, the "system" will have you lagging behind.

Anyone that has been into PC since the 80s, can see that this is always the case.

A great deal is due to "lazy" coding, and the second is to the "back end" interfaces and support systems being behind the need.

People in the IT world, are not concerned or moved by the "suffering" of the "users".

And those that "finance" the IT world, don't give a shit of those in IT, and even less of the schlubs pecking away at keyboards.

So, you realize this and deal with it the best you can, or you keep throwing money away on the latest and greatest tech, and then post this same question again.

And my response would be the same.
