I am beginning to believe that politics is dirty. (understatement) Washington and even overseas has players playing dirty, and has been dirty for years. Even before DJT. Maybe DJT is dirty some too, but compared to them...... The established (both sides) are fearing that their house/swamp is going to get cleaned. I wish that I were independently wealthy like Trump or Darrell Issa so that I could get into politics and just be able to tell everyone to pound sand as I do what's actually best for the country. I know that's all easier said than done, but it's just so frustrating watching these crooks run this country. Thank God for President Trump at least. One reason Issa is quitting seems to be the serious prospect of losing in his district. Another reason is that as a mere Congressman he can’t really do what is actually best for the country like he could if more folks agreed with him about what is actually best for the country. I think that was a design criteria, that nothing could be done, no matter how good it would be for the country, unless a sufficient number of people in various roles agreed. The President can do very little unless Congress agrees and gives him the authority and money. A majority of Congress and 60 Senators can do a lot if the President agrees, and they can do more if enough of them agree to override a veto. The Supreme Court wields tremendous power if someone with standing will bring a justiciable case or controversy over the interpretation of a Constitutional right or federal statute, but not much else. All this complexity because not everyone can agree on what is actually best for the country. Dang! Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. You've never heard the saying, "Those who love sausage and the law should see neither being made." If you have the chance (and the time), you should watch the Ken Burns series on the Vietnam War. "America's most unpopular war," it's been called. Burns shows why that's so. Ignore his leftist leanings (he thinks John Kerry was some sort of hero). He shows the duplicity of presidents from Eisenhower through Nixon. Falsifying casualty reports, withholding news from the public, etc. It's sour government in microcosm. You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member | |||

Here in Washington Dino Rossi is running for Congress. There are a slew of attack ads and mailings making all sorts of claims. I have no idea who is running against him. Neither do I know their position on the issues. Nothing. The thing about mudslinging is there is no way you can avoid getting the filth on yourself. In this case, I’ve made up my mind.
