With the likely upcoming sales ban would you still buy a DJI drone? My understanding is if I get one before the ban is in place it will remain legal but may not get updates later on. The DJI flight technology is way ahead of everything else at this time. Prefer to not buy a brick. I've been interested in drone technology since it became a consumer product. Shame that most of the use these days is for real estate advertising/promotion. Of course, I'm inside the DC beltway where flying drones is prohibited so I've never purchased one.

I've got an about 10 year old DJI Phantom. Kind of clunky with the older tech, and I'm sure the newer ones are far better, but I like it. I mostly just use it for hanging Ham antennas. It's a lot easier than trying to sling a rope over a tree. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I had a specific need for one. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. Been doing some reading. Looks like everyone's saying that they should work fine. Key word being should. But future parts and updates won't likely be available. Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.

I've long thought about getting a drone, just for fun. Go to the beach or out off the beaten path and mess around with it. I don't know what DJI even stands for. Does this mean any and all drones won't be available for the general consumer?

I thought they used to phone home all the time. Am I misremembering or did that change?

I thought that was the source of the impending ban. Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. — — — — — — — — — — — — God bless America.

If I were to buy a drone, DJI is the only company I would consider. They really are far superior. Controls are easy and they are pretty good as far as no experience and you can still fly it. My old boss had one and I flew it a fair amount.

If you are buying it for other than personal use, the Skydio x10 thermal is better than DJI. For all other aspects DJI is better. If you are buying for fear of missing out, then I wouldn't. I have DJI and am not worried. Things will get settled in the nick of time. ___________ ___________ ___________

The video above is a bunch of guesses. Drone valley is a guy who does a lot of drone videos and he’s a retired engineer that uses logic combined with research. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxlh08lnhCE I’ve had 4 DJI drones. I don’t think they’re going anywhere because there’s way too much money involved. We might not be able to buy new drones but I don’t think they will go back and make previously legal equipment illegal. The lobbiests are very powerful though so who knows. Not to mention every emergency service uses DJI. Farmers, insurance, power companies and a 100 other companies that use them. It’s not like you’re risking thousands of dollars anyhow. Most likely you’re looking at a $500 drone. This message has been edited. Last edited by: 1s1k,

25% of my job is flying DJI drones for construction inventory mapping. The other 75% of my job is video production, and I use DJI for some of that, as well. Their stuff flat-out works. Better than any others. So, yes. The impending ‘ban’ is concerning, but not troubling. We will deal with it as things unfold.

I bought a Mini 3 for my son last Christmas. One of his hobbies is filmmaking little shorts, and he loves it. I haven’t used mine enough to have a clear understanding if it phones home or how it can be stopped. My understanding at the moment is mine won’t fly without an internet connection to verify that the location I’m trying to fly from is not restricted. If it is restricted, then the internet connection is required to get permission to fly. For example, our new house is near an airport, I have to get permission to fly my drone and even then, can’t fly above 50’. If there’s a way around the location check, then keeping it from phoning home, if it does, would be simple. I’m curious, what valuable information would my drone be giving away to the Chinese that the Chinese cannot already easily obtain? The real question is why does our own government want to keep track of everything we do?

Real-time images. Sort of like [my opinion of] the creation of Facebook: "why actively ask people for information about themselves, when we can make it easy for them to broadcast it [brag] on their own?"
Because it's all about control. Quoting a good friend: "Every conflict, disagreement, and war ever has been about control. Somebody has it, somebody else wants it." Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. — — — — — — — — — — — — God bless America.

I would definitely buy one if you want one. Just because they might/will be banned in the U.S. does not mean that they will worldwide, so parts will still be available. IF you own one, I would have to imagine flying it would be grandfathered in. They don't need cell phone/internet to fly home, because one of my clients used to fly one off of a yacht I was running and we had NO cell phone or internet reception in many places he flew it, it uses it's built in GPS to fly home. He made a lot of terrific videos on a Youtube channel about 3-4 years ago. This was pre Starlink as well. The shroud cay one is most beautiful, but definitely no cell or internet coverage there. https://www.youtube.com/@therealbahamas2402
