It appears hat the DJI is the far ahead leader and as of yesterday I can get the new Mini 5 Pro from Amazon. Decided to do it as I think waiting for Prime Day is possibly going to deplete stock. Mine will arrive on Thursday and I did the TRUST test yesterday, not sure if it is worthwhile for me to do Part 107, going to wait on that for a bit. I see that the Mini 5 Pro is generally a few grams over 250 for most units even though it is listed at 249.9, so I assume that registration will be required. In reality it would seem with the auto reporting of position etc. that registration is not an issue because of those functions taking place automatically and FAA able to know what one is doing. There are likely a few places around my town that are no fly zones, what with a couple of defense related contractors, but I will find out before doing something really stupid. New question for present owners of drones, if I get lucky and actually get one of the few Mini 5's that weighs in under the 250 gram limit can I forgo the registration or is it a blanket policy that all of a certain model must be registered. I own a couple of other things that are registered through other .gov agencies so it isn't like I am off grid and under the radar and the $5 fee certainly isn't an issue. Probably just best to do the paperwork and not worry about a possible (expensive) violation. I know if I choose to go Part 107 that registration is required. If your intent is to make money, you must be licensed as a Part 107 pilot. Registering the drone is annoying once. Aloft Air Control is a helpful app for your flight restrictions. ___________ ___________ ___________

AutoPylot is another good app used for flying, airspace, LAANC approvals, etc. As for cell signals - I can assure you that DJI drones will fly with no cell signal at all. A few places I fly are *very* remote with no cell coverage at all. Everything works fine. I typically pre-cache any map images I need before going to those locations. Even if you don't plan on making a dollar flying your drone, I highly recommend studying for and passing the Part 107 exam. If for nothing else, you will understand airspaces, weather, and know the rules about where to fly/not fly.
