Shot to slide lock. Most satisfying. Too bad we couldn't see the trash getting perforated on the ground.

People who turn their nose up at the police- if I have the opportunity, I ask them: Do you have a job? A real job. Does your job carry the very real risk that everytime you go to work, you could be murdered? No? Then, you should show some respect.

Not trying to Monday morning quarterback, but what is the deputy shooting at when the guy comes up from behind him? The guy who ran away? Or did he think the gunman was behind the car and he was.. keeping his head down?

Yea, I think the deputy is shooting at one of the other two guys who were running away. Deputy went behind the truck for cover and lost sight of the bad guy with the AK47 type pistol. At that point the deputy has been hit and between the adrenaline and the sheer panic was just firing at who he could see.

Then it seems the guy with the AK47 pistol, which is now jammed or out, comes around behind the deputy and attacks.

They both go to the ground and the other deputy who had circled around a different way, I think behind a different car, comes out and gives the AK47 pistol guy what he needs.

Overall, a great job by the deputies. I don't know how I would respond under pressure like that. Sure, I very familiar with my firearm and can put up a satisfactory performance on the range, but this situation was insane.

If you look at 7:05 on the video it looks like the DS (Thoman ?) facing the camera ejects his Mag by accident.

I tried to count shots, I think he was OOB (out of boolits), dropped the mag and realized bad guy was certainly hoppin' pretty damned fast.

He reloaded and came back around for another pass and then did a righteous mag dump.

Glad the good guys prevailed.

Full 15 rounds on the mag dump. You can see the Deputys stress level too. Its good he remained aware after ejecting the magazine.

Yes could be, just watching the tape my 1st inpression was oops.

Hopefully there will be body camera videos to see this from another perspective.

One of the comments pointed out how you can't make the argument that they "should have just shot him in the leg." (Which is just asinine.) They did shoot him in the leg, and he came right on back in an attempt to murder the deputies.

Thank god the perp with the gun had a jam or ran out of ammo or we might have two more dead cops because he came around the back of the squad car unexpectedly. Big tall SUV was a disadvantage in this case.

I was nearly sick to my stomach watching how fast that stop went downhill. But when the young deputy came through with the mag dump a phrase came to mind....don't know if I read it here or a gun magazine. "Shoot-em' down to the deck and keep shooting til their clothes catch fire". People that wear uniforms and protect the citizens don't get paid enough or supported, respected....it's sickening

Shame the one deputy got hurt, but he should heal. That mag dump had a wonderful secondary effect in that it eliminated the ongoing costs associated with storing and prosecuting this garbage for years.

Well, that went sideways rather quickly. I watched just the shootout video first then I watched the Sheriff’s releases.
Hot Damn it’s a small world if I don’t know Deputy Potters and glad he is going to be Ok.

Many years ago when I worked nights downtown he owned/operated an independent limousine here in Central Kentucky.
While he was waiting on his fares He’d always chat with officers about wanting to be the police he actually ran for Sheriff here a a couple times.
Glad he is going to be alright and that he finally he got to become the police.
