parabellumLooking for a book stand
My mother taught me reverence for books. My father built two large book shelves for my room and my mother filled them with books.
"Never break the back of a book," she would say. By this, she meant to never open a book so that it lay flat, as this weakens the spine of even the finest-bound books.
I can't say I have always adhered to this; for instance, when using a book as base to photograph objects described in some book or other. For the most part, though, this is a rare occurrence.
Consequently, I have a difficult time reading some larger, coffee table-style books. I need a stand to support such books while I have them open.
You can find book stands all over the internet, but all of the ones I've found lay books out flat, open to 180 degrees.
What I need is a book stand which allows books to be open to, say, 150 degrees, give or take. The stand should have a base a few inches high, allowing it to be used on a desktop or in bed, nothing on a pedestal stand or anything like that.

parabellumYes, like that, thank you. I don't know why I couldn't find this style of stand before when I searched.

dsietsThat's really nice.
I laid a thick bound cookbook flat yesterday and I could hear the binding cry out. I cringed.

Redleg06Para, glad to help. I used the phrase "bookstand for rare books" in my search. I figured that that would narrow it down.

whanson_wiI'm glad you could find a source.
We have a Bible stand that my wife received from her parents. I asked her who made it... she thinks her Grandfather, in the grave about 50 years now, so not taking any orders.
