My mother taught me reverence for books. My father built two large book shelves for my room and my mother filled them with books.

"Never break the back of a book," she would say. By this, she meant to never open a book so that it lay flat, as this weakens the spine of even the finest-bound books.

I can't say I have always adhered to this; for instance, when using a book as base to photograph objects described in some book or other. For the most part, though, this is a rare occurrence.

Consequently, I have a difficult time reading some larger, coffee table-style books. I need a stand to support such books while I have them open.

You can find book stands all over the internet, but all of the ones I've found lay books out flat, open to 180 degrees.

What I need is a book stand which allows books to be open to, say, 150 degrees, give or take. The stand should have a base a few inches high, allowing it to be used on a desktop or in bed, nothing on a pedestal stand or anything like that.

Yes, like that, thank you. I don't know why I couldn't find this style of stand before when I searched.

That's really nice.
I laid a thick bound cookbook flat yesterday and I could hear the binding cry out. I cringed.

Para, glad to help. I used the phrase "bookstand for rare books" in my search. I figured that that would narrow it down.

I'm glad you could find a source.

We have a Bible stand that my wife received from her parents. I asked her who made it... she thinks her Grandfather, in the grave about 50 years now, so not taking any orders. Smile
