There seems to be a flow of companies that are retreating away from DEI and back to some level of sanity. But, according to a WSJ article, Costco seems to be a notable exception and seems to be standing fast on DEI. Not sure to what extent DEI is in practice at Costco. But I'm relying on them less and less as I age. I used to go 2-3 times a month. Now it's more like 2-3 times a year. I no longer use them for daily items. More likely just for bigger ticket items. There are some exceptions but this is largely the trend. If they really are remaining DEI, then it may be time to just stop my membership now. This DEI nonsense is espoused by their CEO and board members. The annual Costco shareholder meeting is next week, and there is a shareholder anti-DEI proposal being voted on. Thank you for this link and news. I’m a champion of Costco. Without that store, man my groceries (I rarely buy anything from them outside of groceries, soap, paper products) would be infinitely more expensive. Especially during the pandemic when supply of goods was constrained, Costco was a revelation. Their prices went up too but the corporate heads kept it at bay, and for the most part prices have come back down. Still more than pre-pandemic, but way better than the cookie cutter corporate grocery store chains. Without Costco in my life I’d be spending hundreds more per month. And their gas is Tier 1 and the best gasoline available here. So I want them to cut this DEI bullshit out and they need to. I don’t want to have to stop using them as it’s horrible for my monthly nut. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Costco was doing DEI before it was popular, stayed out of the BLM BS, and has always prided itself on inclusivity. (It is a west coast company after all). They didn’t move further to the left when it was advisable to do so and advertise it, they are not going to move right now. They pay their employees well, offer health insurance in an industry that often doesn’t, and their employee and customers both appreciate the company and feel they are getting a good value. I have never found a Costco employee to be anything other than helpful, something that can’t be said for Walmart. They have followed their stated vision, provided value, and to my knowledge have no different company ethos today than they did a decade or more ago. If you liked Costco when Trump was last in office, you should continue to like them.

I think many companies will double down on woke and DEI going forward. Some of the DEI groups inside those companies have become entrenched with tons power and long-standing procedures and practices that the rest of the company have been living with, and they will not go out without a fight, and lots of CEOs don't want a fight since one of their main goals is to stay out of the "news". I think some companies that were practicing hiring minorities are not always what some DEI groups have become, which go way beyond that, by hiring unqualified people, hiring based on race and gender regardless of professional merit, and forcing existing employees out that don't support their agenda. Those practices aren't normal, and work and productivity and morale decrease. I don't think they're always the same thing. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster

COSTCO was always DEI. If you supply them, you are required to adopt DEI policies. Do business with them, as required, but be aware that they are fascist.( or whatever the modern term is for corporate socialism )

I doubt any of these companies will actually change their practices. They are yet again virtue signaling to the eyes upon them. Throw out the web page and make empty claims while the same behind the scenes crew carries on its work. “That’s what.” - She

probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
I had just signed up for a Costco membership last month. I found a deal online that gave a $45 Costco gift card after you signed up, making the membership fee effectively $20. Then that news item about their DEI policy came out right after I used the gift card. It's already paid for so I'll use it this year any way. So then this week the Tmobile Tuesday app gave me an offer for a $20 Sam's Club membership, so I signed up for that so I could get a free pizza from their Cafe. I really only signed up so I can take advantage of any deals I might want after watching The Deal Guys monthly videos for the deals at both warehouses.

If it starts costing them revenue, they'll change their policies. The bottom line is always what it comes down to. Just ask Budweiser.

Therein lies the problem. I refuse to deal with the dei bullshit and don’t do business with them, Im hurting You refuse to deal with the dei bullshit and don’t do business with them we’re hurting Ronin refuses to deal with the dei bullshit and don’t do business with them, the three of us are hurting. But if Konata, Jupiter, Tatertodd, Sjtill and 1967 Goat join in with us, now COSTCO is going to start hurting. It’s the only way to stop this bullshit. Now try getting a handful of companies on the same page when it starts to effect their profits. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I don't go actively looking to find a companies values and beliefs. If you somehow decide to tell me then I will make my decision based on how much it will affect me. It would take a good bit to get Amazon to lose my business solely because they provide what I believe is a highly valuable service. Now lets take the clothing store Eddie Bauer and Dollar Shave Club both of which received my business until they decided to email me after the George Floyd incident. Both stated they were changing their ways to become more diverse which they did not care about before it being trendy.

I was accosted in Costco because I wouldn’t wear a mask the way they wanted me to. Some little puke of a manager approached me aggressively pointing his finger and declaring me an outcast. I told him he was not social distancing. He jumped back but when I didn’t comply, he grabbed me and gruffly escorted me from the building saying if I resisted, he’d have me arrested. I haven’t been back. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

One can only hope he eventually attacked one their darling DEI members and promptly had a serious adjustment made since they need not worry about any trouble from it. “That’s what.” - She

My wife's job is technically a state job, but she's in upper education. The old chancellor who ushered in all the DEI stuff has retired. She took a faculty member and gave her the DEI head job. Tripled her salary. The rest of the faculty was plenty pissed about it. The hope was the new guy would ax all this foolishness. Nope he is still going to do it, but they're going to call it something else. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!
