My ear buds do this it's pretty neat. They will boost whatever frequency you can't hear. I don't know if there's any intention for the to be used as hearing aids, but it seems like a useful feature and I love they way they sound.

Talked to the Mrs., she brought up the point that if I do this with her phone I will get all of her notification and calls ringing in my ears. She would have to turn off blue tooth to answer calls and such..

Correct?

AirPods Pro 1 Model number: A2084, A2083
Year introduced: 2019 Ver 6F21 for mine.

That explains it, figured it was something like that.

Guess I can get a free hearing test at Costco, LOL

I'd caution anyone wanting the new noise cancelling Airpods to make sure that you buy the right ones. Some have noise cancelling and some do not.

You mean if your earbuds are paired with her phone? Do you not have an iPhone of your own? If you don't, you can still do the test and then unpair the earbuds. If she does get a call during this, the phone can still be set to vibrate and she can still answer the phone by selecting either iPhone or Speaker.

She is probably right about the notifications and calls. I don't think you have to turn off blue tooth to answer a call, at least I don't. My bluetooth stays on all the time.

You might hear her ringtone, but she can select on the phone where the call audio is transmitted. The choices are your Airpods, her phone, or her speakerphone.

I may have to spring for a pair of AirPod 2 Pros, after all.

I have a pair of 1st generation AirPods. They're ok for music, but they don't reliably stay in place and, of course, they don't work well with my over-the-ear hearing aids in place.

I have very good hearing aids. They absolutely suck for music. I mean really, really suck.

But I don't like to take them out to wear the AirPods because then my hearing goes to scheisse.

If the AirPod 2 Pros work well as hearing aids, well...

Other nice things about the newer AirPods is they don't have those long boom mics on 'em and, I understand, they stay put better?

They'll stay in better because they have removable eartips that conform to your ear canal instead of just a slick piece of plastic.

The nice thing about the boom mics are they do much better with your voice over phone calls, better active noise cancellation, and better transparency mode for hearing your surroundings.

Someone else mentioned this I think, but I thought I’d reiterate that aftermarket ear tips for the Pro 2’s make a big difference..at least imo. One brand is called Comply, the ones I ended up with are called Foam Masters. Amazon has both.

I've been using my AirPod Pro's for hearing aids for a few months. My wife is a speech pathologist, but not an audiologist, and says the test is legit. She's given hundreds of hearing tests over the decades. I'm astonished how much better these work than the 1 hearing aid I've used for my right ear, birth defect, that cost $4,500. I don't use these all the time, but they are a game changer. Highly recommend.

That’s great to hear. lol. No pun intended. My hearing loss is in just my R ear as well. My AirPods are due here Friday, I’m excited!

Question for those of you who own, or who have actually handled, the Airpod Pro 2 --

Per the Apple website, there is a lanyard loop for the charging case. My question, is there a lanyard loop, or any other provision for retention, on the actual Airpods? My concern is the possibility of loss, especially when active, outdoors.

I tried asking an Apple specialist via "chat" on the Apple website, but "Clark" seemed to be using a totally different version of the English language; we had a failure to communicate.

The lanyard loop is on the case. If you loose an Airpod, you can use the Find My app to locate where you left it.

So, no provision at all for retention on the Airpods. Frown

If you have these, how secure are they? Are they likely to drop out of your ear, or are they fairly loss-resistant?
Thinking ... maybe something creative with a drop of super glue or similar, to bond a lanyard.

I bought a case on Amazon that has a “lock” that prevents the actual earbuds from going flying if dropped.

Side note, my AirPods did not make it here on schedule. They gone to Saint Paul, MN…. Cause that’s the quickest way from Arizona to DFW, TX. Confused Typical bonehead usps move

It looks like that price is good through tomorrow (3/15/25). I just ordered a set. I have an appointment at Costco on 3/24 for new hearing aids but I’m going to give these a shot before spending $1,600.00+

My current hearing aids are 5 years old and they no longer service them and they’re just plain outdated.

Edited to add, apparently there’s counterfeit AirPod Pro 2’s out there so be cautious buying from non reputable sources. They’re all over EBay and Facebook Marketplace for $50.00 - $100.00 “NIB”.

Counterfeits are almost surely from Chicom. Where are these non-counterfeit Apple devices made? Same place, aren't they? So, what's the big deal? Razz

My original AirPods Pro died a while back. I just picked up the second gen a month or so ago at Costco. $199 and two years of Apple Care included for free.

Costco is the best deal I have found so far.
