My fault entirely but I failed to report dividends on 3 securities held in a ShareOwnwers Online brokerage acct that generate digital 1099s with no snail mail. Since I wasn't using TT I did not get the prompts from last years return and I just totally overlooked this little used brokerage account. I owed a little over $1000 in additional tax and paid it with an amended return. I wonder how much the penalty will be for being 3 days late on a $1000 balance? About a 10% stupid tax is what I'm expecting. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Except for me I had to send them a 5 digit amount and the online credit card way woulda added $300 to it… “You may beat me, but you will never win.” sigmonkey-2020 “ in my opinion, anything that we can do to trigger a potential aneurysm in a leftist is a good thing and worth doing” nhtagmember 2025

^^^^^ Wrong! If you use the EFT method and specify a checking or savings account number there’s NO credit card involved. It comes directly out of your specified bank account. No fee beyond your payment. Be sure to have enough money in that account to cover the payment. I’ve used the EFT method for years. Both state and federal. For federal I use LOGIN.GOV to login. Glad it’s over with until P2 payments are due. Serious about crackers.

Here's my tale: I've used Turbo tax for the past 10 years or longer. TT no longer supports Windows 10, there was a work around with TT but price was near double and it felt sketchy so I went with H&R Block. My TT prior year return transmitted to H&R and things went fine with e-filing 2025 fed return. There was a hangup on my Indiana state, not sure why but it was a workpage entry that was corrected but still flagged. Had to file state on paper via mail. When entering my 1099 div income I left out the 1099s from an online brokerage, Shareowner Online, which had 3 stocks in it with dividends of just over $8000. That caused my fed to go from a $600 refund to a near $1000 bill. This was total user error on my part, no excuse other than H&R did not list my prior year 1099s to use as a checklist. I just overlooked the statement and had a moment of clarity 2 days after I'd mailed the return. I could not figure how to do an amended paper Indiana return but in trying I saw that state of Indiana had already adjusted my refund to pay the additional 1099 tax owed. I had just enough refund coming to cover the additional few hundred dollar tax. Today I was near a satellite Indiana Dept of Revenue office so I went for some human advice. Pleasant cs rep said if I was good with the reduction of refund there was nothing further I needed to do. If I wanted to dispute the amount there was a procedure for that. The numbers made sense and I was glad to accept their figures. Case closed. I've used EFT for years. Money comes from bank account via routing # and account #. No charge for electronic funds transfer but using credit card to pay tax bill would be 3% additional. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

I've used Turbo Tax for as long as I can remember... probably over 25 years. I use the Home & Business version. This year I ran into the same problem. The package used to contain a disk, but now it's just a code. But the package is marked "Requires Windows 11". I had to get a new computer! I mail my State return every year. It pisses me off that TT charges an additional $25 fee to transmit the State return at the same time as the Federal. So, I print and mail it... which I just did today. Yeah, it's late but it's a refund so they don't really care. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I have been using TT for years and still mail in my state return. Not worth $25; it cost me $7.20 to mail it certified. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is.
