It’s not THEIR air base.

It’s Mountain Home AFB which will host a Qatar Air Force unit for training. Already been done for years with the British, Germans, Saudis, Kuwaitis etc.

Calm your tits

Exactly. Sounds like the typical social media clickbait hype. Roll Eyes

The airbase near me has one of these allied air force training units, the 85th Fighter Wing. They host groups of pilots from Poland, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, and Singapore, who they train to pilot their F35s and F16s.

But it's still a US base.

Tucson has been the home for F16 pilot training for years. They used to fly the flags of all the nations that were here training but they took them down about 5 years ago

We allow a bunch of allied nations to use our airbases for training with our forces.

Luke AFB (Tucson) (nhtagmember's local noise factory) flies F16 as ground attack, and F35 as air superiority. When I was there I saw Dutch, German, an British aircraft.

North of Las Vegas is the Nellis AFB Range, plus Area 51 and the Nevada National Security Site is roughly 4= milion acres of you-cant-go-there America. We brng non-USAF aircraft
(e.g. Navy, Marines) and non-US aircraft and crews (I've seen, Dutch, German Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Aussies, Brits at Nellis)

Chocolate Mountain Range (Navy) where I saw four A-10s, MCAS El Toro, and NAS North Island, NAS Mirimar primarily serve fleet aviation,
NAS OCEANA, VA, and MCAS Beaufort SC, plus all the offshore ranges in the Atlantic Ocean, allow anyone to use them if they are attending the Marines F/A18 training at Beaufort. The same is true for the Pacific Ocean range (e.g. Barking Sands, 100M Acres!), and in the Gulf of the America.

It is like Mach Loop in Wales.

Has to be. I had a friend in another circle ask the same question worded almost the same way earlier. Seems this one is making the rounds.

It’s just more of this anti-Hegseth hysteria since he’s the one who announced it.

Is it just me or has there suddenly been another big push by the Dems/MSM to “get him”? They’re all melting down over his Generals/Admirals commanders call.

My wife lost her shit over this while we were driving home from lunch. I tried explaining to her we are ALWAYS training other countries and we're probably just letting them have their own hangers and offices there on the base. She figures it is payback for that luxury jet the President got. At that point I just rolled my eyes, shut my mouth, and focused on driving.

What it is, is payback for Qatar signing on to Trump’s peace agreement instead of continuing to fund Hamas. Qatar has also fired top managers at Al Jazeera, and I’ve read reports that, for example, QJ journalists allow Gazans opposed to Hamas to talk instead of silencing them as they used to.
This is also the reason for the EO to offer NATO Chapter 5-level protection against attacks on Qatar.
Trump put the screws on Qatar to get them to sign on. And BTW the Israeli attack, attempting to kill Hamas leaders, put the fear of God into the Qataris. Like Trump’s bombing Iran, the tag team of the US and Israel has brought rapid and major changes to the Middle East.

Qatar has done charitable things over the years. There is a large sign over our hospital cafeteria which reads "Gift from the citizens of Qatar", Katrina took out the old one. No fanfare at the time just a brief TV spot.

Thank for ones clarifying it’s a facility within a U.S. Air Force base. That makes sense because when I went to boot camp and A school, there were Iranian platoons in boot camp with us as well as in A school, except I didn’t know what schools they were attending. I got to hang out with some of them with some of my classmates in A school.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Having been one of the Gunfighters in the 366th TFW at Mountain Home during my stint in TAC for four years, there's no better place for it. They currently host the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and have since 1998, for good and sufficient reasons. They deployed a Base Ops Support package to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar immediately post-9/11 to set up a full-up airfield to engage combat ops at a forward-deployed location, thanks to the tremendous support of the Qataris, and deployed one of our squadrons (the 389th F-16Cs) to fly sustained air ops out of it. Its current F-15E training mission is ideal for its location. The Qataris are welcome, and a crucial part of the nation's strategic alliances and mission. In spite of howls from Laura Loomer and others who know little or nothing about the long-range Middle East strategy of the President, who could probably point out that the Qatar Ministry of Defense is not the Qatar government, those F-15 planes and pilots will ultimately support our allies and alliances in the region if the Middle East is ever to become anything other than a cesspool of tribal terrorists endlessly trying to cut each others' (and the world's) throats. Good on the President and SecWar Hegseth for the vision.

well, in a kinda sorta not really but maybe related thing,

heard an unusual sound yesterday, and went to FlightRadar24 to find out an Osprey had flown just south of me (heard, too many trees to see)

whilst on the sight, and looking around , pulled back to get a bigger area and saw 4 Mirages flying off the coast of NC,

guessing NC got invaded yesterday?

We hosted an Israeli Kfir squadron at NAS Oceana back in the 80’s. The families came over too and my mom taught the kids secular studies T our local Hebrew Academy. We hosted many families for dinner as my dad was a Naval officer.

The Emirati’s flew close air support for US troops during the GWOT: our partnership is on the level of the Brits and NATO countries.

Germany has an air unit and C-130 at Dulles for 20+ years.

Much ado about nothing.

I heard on the ABC news here tonight what SOUNDED like the same thing, that Qatar is being given a base here. I was "WTF??", but when I listened to the story it came out that some of their people are just going to be training here. So I guess just the usual shit-spouting media hacks. David Muir in this case.

That base is 10 miles from my front door, I hear them up flying a lot. F-15 C's and E's. I wonder if the Qataris are bringing their own planes with them, or borrowing some of ours.

More likely that Draken was providing commercial Red Air support training for the Marines at MCAS Beaufort or JTAC training at MCAS Cherry Point.
