Until this article, I have never seen the word "amass" used to describe a gathering of pigs by pigs. A farmer could "amass" pigs, but farmers could not "amass" themselves and neither could pigs.

I agreed with you, thinking that “amass” was a transitive verb only, but I decided to check and according to my Merriam-Webster’s it can be intransitive as well, as in “to come together: assemble.”

I had no idea they were that far north either.
They are no joke, but a lot of farmers aren't too worried about them because they just charge folks a few hundred dollars to come shoot a few. It's the most idiotic thing I've seen. If farmers saw them for the scourge they truly are, they'd let folks come in and shoot them whenever the opportunity presented itself. Guess that extra dollar or two seems to offset whatever damage to crops and fences these little piggies are causing.

When a farmer or rancher considers the potential liability to his property and livelihood vs the dubious benefit of allowing free access to the public to attempt to shoot a few feral hogs, many opt for other, much more efficient methods of hog control.
You may have noticed that there are a lot of foolhardy people who own guns. I’d rather not take the chance of having them on our property.

I agree and learned the hard way when one of the neighbors was shooting towards the houses in the background.
Now he is mad and vandalizes my property. He has pulled up the surveyor stakes, had a tree stand in one of my trees and recently destroyed five bluebird boxes.

Not questioning your statement here, but can you prove his actions? Like in a legal sense? Criminal charges plus monetary compensation for having the damage repaired.
