Just life happens and regardless of age, you realize it is coming.

What do you, how do u live?

Context: I'm old and my great-grandmother asked me the same question when she was my age now.

You see, she freaked me out with that question.

I don't think the term means what you think it means, LS1 GTO: Swan Song
quote:

Swan Song

the last act or manifestation of someone or something; farewell appearance:
This building turned out to be the swan song of Victorian architecture.

It's not something you meet. It's your or something's last act--and then only, properly speaking, a "swan song" if that last act is somehow notable.

I think he means Swan Song, or a person's final performance or part of their life - normally when they've resigned themselves to the approach of death.

From the myth that a swan is mute or voiceless all it's life, only singing when it is about to die.

I've been living my life all along knowing my life is finite. I remember as a young boy, maybe 10, I thought I'd never live to be 50. 50 seemed like way old to me.

I've been prepared to die for a long while. I became even more comfortable with the idea when I reached a financial point that my wife would have resources to live on should I die before her.

Since 1979, as a sailor out in the middle of the Indian Ocean, I've lived my life as if there was a God and that I'll go to heaven when I die because I believe Jesus died as payment for my sins. If that turns out to not be the case, I can live with that or, more appropriately, die with that.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

I could have made that exact statement. Since I am a couple of decades past 50 I just accept I am in the bonus round.

My own experience hints there is more, but I do not know.

In this world, yes, but this world is not all there is.

Is everything OK? Is this philosophical, or is something going on with you?

So, it is Swan Song? You don’t “meet it,” you sing it; try to make it good.

I have long stated that the magic age is 70. Die before then, it is a tragedy, "but he was so young!" After 70 it's, "well, he had a pretty good run."

Facing one's demise isn't easy, especially when a doctor (or whoever) gives a convincing deadline (ho ho). However, the bare fact of the matter is that we are all dying, just some of us faster than others, and the sooner you come to that realization, the more time you have to enjoy life before it ends. Might as well go out singing your swan song or whatever rather than feeling sorry for yourself, and crying in your beer.

(Emphasis mine) This statement sums it up for me.

I know most folks have unshakeable beliefs on the subject and I'm sure that's very comforting, but I'm firmly in the Doubting Thomas camp. I hope there's more, but I need proof.
