Even after a very risky pursuit and crash. I ran his history and it showed a long string of arrests and jail time. He was closed mouth but polite and cooperative once the cuffs were on. On the way to jail, I asked him if he ever got tired of being arrested. Here was his response:
"No I dont. Its what I do. I am a criminal. You are a cop and you do what you do. I am the same".
And this mindset crosses all racial lines.

I still remember an interview I did early in my career. A guy came into the office to get his benefits reinstated after being released from prison. So he sits down and says loudly that he just got released from Rahway Prison and needs to get his benefits reinstated. He then goes on to say that they had to put him in Rahway because of his record. It was soon clear to me that far from being embarrassed, this guy was boasting or bragging about being incarcerated at Rahway. (Rahway is where NJ puts it's hard cases.) As a new guy from a middle class background, meeting a guy who wasn't the slightest bit embarrassed about being incarcerated, and in fact was clearly proud of it, was new to me. And his pride at being locked up in Rahway was like a college graduate boasting that he went to Harvard. Because of my job and where I worked I met hundreds of guys like this while I was working. (I worked in East Harlem, Bedford Stuyvesant, and Camden NJ.) But with this interview I learned that I had entered into a new world. One other thing the guy said during that interview. He said "We all spend some time locked up." I don't know who the "we" is that he was referring to. But it's clear that time in prison for this guy was about as consequential as spending some time in high school. Just a rite of passage for him.

FED161-

So there's a guy on this side of the Bell Curve, Worked hard, went to school, studied, got great grades, did something with his life, gives back to society in some way, very "low profile" life.

Then there's always going to be some dipshit on the other end of the Bell Curve that is the opposite.
You know, the ones WE deal with.

Dealing with the shitstains on the fabric of society for the past 28 years, yeah some asshole is actually proud of, well... being an asshole.
Some of the assholes I deal with EXPECT to go to the Joint. Usually the same people who celebrate a 3rd grade graduation like it's actually an accomplishment. Later in life, nothing is ever their fault, those aren't their pants, they are their cousins pants, "I'm gonna sue! I'll have your badge!", Didn' do nuffin, where's my free shit?

I've dealt with the Professional Bad Guys too. One or two were by hard work, the rest I encountered by luck. The Professionals are just that- Pro's. They don't complain, they know what's happening, what's about to happen, and some of them are actually pretty cool about it.
"Officer, no offence, but I'm gonna sit here and just shut the fuck up."

Is there any way at all that it might be as simple as
The few bad cops that we hear about on a regular basis are spoiling it for the many.

Just like a half dozen other social activities.

Retail ain't the same ,
Eating out is half back awards.
Don't get me started on schooling.

Pretty close to nothing is as it was " in the old days"

There is a giant crack in the social fabric of life in America.

I think a part of the problem is the expectation that "The government " will take care of everything.

Generally, no.

I've lost count in the last few years how many times somebody has told me that were afraid for their life in the midst of some trash talking tirade. You're not afraid for your life, you're going through the script. If you were afraid for your life you wouldn't be talking shit.

And I'll tell you what, generally, it's working. There are a lot of cops that will avoid proactive enforcement because they just don't want to deal with the attitudes and accusations.

Nope they flee because they don't want to face the fact that they got caught and they don't want to face the consequences of their actions.
Crooks knew that LEO won't shoot them unless they pull a weapon on the Officers or that they are overpowering the Officer with brute force.
In my opinion it's a cheap trick used by lawyers in order to get their clients off the hook or a lighter sentence. The media laps it up as part of their racist agenda.

If you're a black male between the ages of 17 and 30, you're several thousand percent more likely to be gunned down by another black male (also between the ages of 17 and 30) than to be shot by any manner of LEO, on a traffic stop or not.

So, I'm gonna say... no?

Pretty much whats already been stated here.

I had a discussion during either BLM 1.0 or 2.0 with two guys on a stop and my explanation was simply this.

"I understand that you saw some videos that concerned you, we have concerns as well but you can show me a video of a cop killing a black guy and I can show you a video of a black guy killing a cop. Doesnt mean either of us should treat each other like that based on what we look like or how were dressed. Consider the Nazis or any regime that's done ethnic cleansing, they aren't subtle, if we were really after you there'd be black bodies stacked on the side of the road or ashes snowing out of the sky. For that matter, considering how long we've been sitting here talking about it, I'm, if you believe the news reports, really far behind in murdering you two. My Sargeants going to be furious. Also, I'd have to at least wing myself every day when I sign in."

We all had a chuckle about it and they said when I put it like that it sounds crazy. Yeah. We got into a great discussion about the stories being pushed, the manipulation by the media, and some politics. It was a great contact.

In short, the ones that run typically have some sort of issue they don't want to be caught for. Might it enter some peoples minds when they're stopped? Sure they might think about it but run? Thats a bad guy. The media and politicians sure do enjoy making us all dance though.
