I’ve been on Straight Talk for about 12 or 13 years now. Never had a problem and never had a hidden charge. It’s $45/month always. I’ve been looking to get a new iPhone and while I can buy one and put it on the Straight Talk account, I’ve been looking at the Apple Card financing. With the financing you have to choose AT&T, Verizon, Boost or T-mobile. I’m considering it. I don’t want to leave Straight Talk and then find that I get all sorts of crazy extra fees. So, tell me about your cellular service and if you’ve ever got hit with hidden fees or sudden price increases. Who should I avoid?

Maybe try asking the potential service providers you’re considering for an estimate of what your monthly bill including taxes and fees would be for the service level you want? If they can’t or won’t provide that for you, assume the worst and move on to the next one. I’ve been using Ting for years and they’ve never had a charge I wasn’t expecting. Am planning on leaving them for another vendor soon since they don’t accommodate eSIMs, but that’s a technology issue, not cost.

Verizon is never the same price 2 months in a row. It's just a penny or two, but I'm unlimited with no extras. Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

T-mobile, the price you see is the price you pay. We use T-mobile and are very happy, coverage, speed and PRICE. No hidden fees. Call them and get a quote. My prices have been the same since day 1, except for chages (upgrades) I initiated. NEVER ANY UPSELLING. No sales calls to add to or change our service. I dumped AT&T due to the price increases two years ago. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. I have T-Mobile. $55/month for seniors (55 or over) for my single line. Unlimited everything except unthrottled hotspot data is limited to 15GB/month. After 15GB an unlimited amount of throttled hotspot data. Never an extra charge beyond that $55 monthly fee (provided you have autopay set up with a debit card). This message has been edited. suggest you straight-up buy direct from apple. its unlocked and you are a free agent to hire the provider of your choice, no strings attached, no commitments (they hate that). Unlocked phone is also very easy to sell/trade/upgrade price is the same, just a question if you can lay out the cash or float it on your credit card - BONUS: Military discount, if that applies to you = 10% off - Pro Tip: Apple Refurb are as good a new, same warranty, accessories and include new: case, battery and glass and are another 10-20% off (I got my current iPad mini and hand on heart cannot tell a difference. These two will more than offset credit card interest

Down the Rabbit Hole |
T-Mobile is the best by far in my experience. I have 4 lines and pay $45 per line with unlimited 5G and 40GB mobile hotspot per month. Every time I've called customer service, I was able to get through quickly and talk to someone I could understand based in the US. My experience with AT&T was nowhere close to the excellent customer service I've had with T-Mobile. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
^^^^ I would never finance an item like a cell phone and the difference in monthly costs for service just reinforces that decision. I don't know what the options are where you live but we use Cricket with AT&T network service and they can use any phone that is unlocked that can connect to that service. We've had their service for about two years now and the price hasn't changed. One simple price including any tax or fees. When we were with AT&T, they needed an extra page on the bill to itemize all the various fees that seemed to sneak up a little almost every month. If you look at the costs to have a new financed phone and the service you're tethered to under those plans, you're massively increasing your annual costs. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Please explain that. I’m not sure that I understand your point. The financing on any Apple product is they split the total into 12 or 24 parts and one part goes onto your Apple Card every month. As long as it’s paid on the next month’s billing cycle there is no interest. I don’t see a downside other than not being able to forget about it. You see, it’s different than using a regular credit card where the total goes on the card and then you pay interest on the balance. The Apple Card seems to be designed to avoid paying interest. I was looking at T-Mobile but their service is spotty in my area. At least the 5G part is.

Don't Panic |
There's a reason why the TV ads from the major providers talk about 'free* iPhone 16s' and it's not because they lose money on giving them away. The least of your worries is the 'hidden fees'....what will make you regret changing providers is likely to be their monthly charges. * and, yes, I know that the fine point explains the 'free' bit is usually issuing partial credits over a long period, which total to the 'up front' cost of the phone. Do the entire math - monthly payments, interest, phone purchase, and 'junk fees' and then decide. Marketing experts go crazy trying to work the word 'free' into their offers...as cheaply as they can. TL: DR - Caveat Emptor.

Yep, I have had Total wireless for years. My step daughter and myself, unlimited talk, text and we share 30 GB of data for $59 all in. I buy used unlocked phones and the Princess gets new apples about once a year from her pops

I've been with Visible, which is owned by Verizon, for a couple of years. No issues at all. A flat $25 per month. I did the yearly plan for $275, I believe. They currently have a promotion going for $20 a month for 2 years.

Thank you Very little |
Been with T-Mobile for several years on the 55+ magenta plan, no extra fees or charges have appeared and the service has been very good.

Get an Apple Card and buy an unlocked phone. They have interest free plans.

We have prepaid ATT plans. I pay a year at a time, $300 for a year, total. Includes 15gb per month. The only downside is you cannot change the number, without giving up the balance.

Bro, that’s what the whole thread is about. You can’t get an unlocked phone with the interest free plan.

T mobile has never charged me a "hidden" fee. I have an expensive-ish plan, but because my work pays for it. Unlimited everything, no throttling, frequent upgrades. I wouldn't need all I have got. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.
