keep maybe $100M for myself / the family

spend the rest of my life giving away the rest of it - it would be rewarding to start / support some foundations for charitable causes

The real question is do we have a good team of accountants and lawyers here I can tap into when I win? I figured at the least I’ll need to set up some sort of trust to insulate myself from both taxes and shyster lawyers and those who hire shyster lawyers.

I'm surprised the jackpot is still at $1.6 billion. I imagine it will go up before the drawing tonight.

Another interesting point: rising interest rates have lowered the cash value of the prize. The $1.586 Billion jackpot in 2016 had a cash value of around $985MM. Tonight's $1.6 Billion jackpot has a cash value of $904 million.

In my state, the after-tax cash prize would be about $570MM. The wrinkle is that there could be multiple winners (there were 3 winners of the PowerBall $1.5 billion jackpot).

Odds are 1 in approximately 303,000,000.

But because I'm not the grinch who stole Christmas, I'll play along.

My service dog non-profit is about to begin a capital campaign to allow us to buy some land and build a new facility. I would end it before it got started.

New house, a couple of cars and a NetJets share. A couple decent sized donations to favorite causes. The rest goes into a family office (run by me) to be invested with much of the income being distributed to various charities and causes as well as supporting my family.

And, of course, the mother of all karmas on SF.

The flaw in my plan is that it requires one to buy a ticket.

I would set up between a third and a half to ensure income for my family. The rest I would disburse where I think it will do the most good.

Putting strippers through college... that kind of good.

1. get a good lawyer
2. buy a large area of land in the Mountains of NC so that our families could all live on the compound
3. build homes for all said family
4. build a range for me & the FIL to open a USPSA/range equal to Talladega CMP's range
5. and the obvious one would be to build a boonker

lastly, donate so much money to the Shriner's Hospitals they would name the wing after my brother who the helped when he was a kid. And then set up an account to help fund them (Shriner's) in perpetuity

If I win... I'll do the same for all of my SIGforum friends. Party on, Wayne! Party on, Darth!

I’m in the disappearing group. I agree, I’ve no idea how much it costs to be rich, but I’d definitely be reinvesting after contributing to causes I felt were worthy.

I'd give certain people in my life a substantial check on the condition that they sign an agreement to never ask me for another penny.

then...

I'd quietly buy every internet gun forum in the United States, no matter what the cost.

then...

I'd throw the biggest party you've ever seen, for SIGforum members. I'd fly in all those who want to attend, all expenses paid.

then...

I'd do whatever I want, whenever I want, within the boundaries of the law, of course.
