Time to get the boys a new basketball hoop. One came with the house when we moved in 11 years ago so who knows how old it actually is. While a quality Lifetime hoop it’s seen better days. The backboard is bowed and when you shoot your shot the thing moves backwards like a foot. The boys use it all the time so I figured we’d splurge get a nice middle of the road tempered glass 54” model. $1200 bucks shipped was pretty much the price across the board. I found one place for $999 but you had to pay the freight shipping. Figured what the heck, asked my wife to ask ChatGPT for the best price on that model. Everywhere was $1200 but one place that listed it at $978 according to Chat. But going to the companies website it showed $1200. They said they price match pretty much anyone so I was getting ready to send the $999 link and see if they would match it with free shipping. Then I saw the Make an offer button. So I said what the heck and offered $975. 10 minutes later my offer was approved with free shipping. Clicked the link they provided for the new price and it asked if I wanted to use their Amazon Store to make the purchase. So I said heck yeah because I have the Amazon card that gives me 5% cash back on purchases through Amazon. So after tax and cash back I’ll be right around $978. Not too shabby for something everyone else wanted $1200 plus tax. Now I am going to sit here wondering how low of an offer they would have taken ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Nah,no worries. Be happy you got a much better deal than from the other vendors! Not to mention the value of the memories to be made. Funny side note, I’ve seen big ticket items at live auctions not get another bid other than the opening bid. I would definitely be questioning that!

I would guess 978 was the sale price and you were close enough. I don't think they would have went much lower.

The thing to remember is be grateful that you find such deals, and never push too hard. Getting "greedy" is how Vegas gets fat. I think you did great. Hope the boys enjoy the hoop! "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא עוד

Some like haggling, some don't. Personally, if I wind up with a price I like fairly quickly, I don't second guess myself.

Never look back! There's always a better deal at some point, but you were happy with the deal you got. So keep being happy by not double-thinking it now. My philosophy is a thing costs what it costs. Of course I want a fair deal, but it usually isn't worth the time and aggravation to try to shave another couple of dollars off of a fair price. After some brief shopping around, if I can afford it, I buy.

In a sort of mirror image of the OP, I've often realized - too late - that I underpriced something I had for sale. A couple of times, grossly so. Didn't research the market or realize what I had. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Well yeah, I think everyone wonders, but like others have said be happy with the deal. We listed a rental property last year and had a full price offer in 2 days. Sure, my first thought was we should have listed it higher, but it was a condo and there happened to be a guy renting a unit in the same development waiting for one to become available.

Well, guess this purchase was timed well. Had rowdy winds all day today. Came home to the old hoop smashed to the ground, the front of the rim is now flat, and the two hooves that attach the pole to the back broke out the back. So it is officially dead. Just need to take it apart so it fits in the trash. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Life's too short to sweat that kind of stuff. Glad you made your purchase in a timely manner. I'd much rather see kids shooting hoops than playing on an xbox.

You paid the “asking” price based on ChatGPT. I would have been pissed if they declined an offer just 3 dollars less. If you went $100 lower then you have a basis for wondering if you should have offered even lower. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
