Namely, a roll out platform that allows me to load my truck without having to actually get into the truck bed. Brand? Suggestions? Caveats?

Also, a hard top tonneau cover for the bed. Brand? Suggestions, etc? Caveats? Like, do they leak? Can I go through the car wash without soaking my cargo?

thanks

Edited to add: I just got off the phone w/**** at a shop that sells such things. He recommended "Roll And Lock" cover. Secure to where I can leave tools overnight and waterproof so that rain doesn't ruin my cargo. $1699.

For the sliding bed, "Bed Slide." $1400.

Roll & Lock is great, but typically pricey & the box can be a bit bulky for a short bed truck.
IIRC, these have a keyed latch, so may be slightly more secure than some of the other options, some below.

Bak MX4 is a trifold hard cover. It props up against the back window to allow for full bed access

The Peragon is another interesting one, similar to the MX4, but it folds inward at the front of the bed. Also cannot be partially opened, IIRC.
Supposedly this one is easy quick release if you want to remove it for full bed access.

If I had the bucks, I'd go with a Decked system.

I knew an arson investigator that had Decked drawers in the back of his Suburban. Really nice setup & really sturdy.
Didn't know they did pickup boxes.

We have a "Last Boks" for a bed organizer...

It's not on a slide, but has a couple straps (that clip onto your tie down points) that keep it from moving too far forward or back.

(edit --> Not my truck or picture, just an example I found online)

Made of a flexible plastic. I like it because it's easy to pull out when we use the full bed for stuff...but it's perfect for grocery shopping and daily stuff.

We also have a folding tonneau cover (BakFlip), so it's our "trunk".

Just another option to consider.

I have a Bakflip MX4, like it, and recommend it.

I had a Peragon from '02 to '09. Good when I had 3/4 load or less. Pain in the ass to remove for full load, there were supports that hung into the bed, and I loaned it to a buddy and he tied off a load to the supports which was a pain in the ass to fix. I spent the night at a hotel and had the bed locked, but it didn't stop turds from breaking the aluminum deck around the lock. I wouldn't buy one again.

My buddy had the Decked drawers in his old Tundra and really liked them.

He bought a new Tundra a put a Bakflip MX4 cover.

We installed Bedslide brand where I worked. While they were ok for the purpose, they were not at the same time. They operated good but far from smooth. While fully extended, the platform was not level and anything that could roll, would roll to the front of the platform.

We installed a couple of Decked brand systems and they were a much better platform. The directions for installation were easy to read and follow and even had some funny content written in them. This would be the route I would take.

I personally had a Pace Edwards roll top cover on a truck I had years ago. They have improved the design since then and I believe for the better. However, I do not have a first hand experience with the newer version.

Some years ago we had a 2005 Silverado with a hard fiberglass, one-piece tonneau cover on the bed. It didn’t leak, but the bed itself did when you drove on a rainy day when the highway was wet.

Diamond back cover- waterproof, lockable and can support 400 lids. If they have a cosmetic blem- we’ll worth the price.

Backflip tri fold bed cover. Keeps 85% of the water out I would say. I bought it to keep my things out of sight. Low profile view from side, will get again if/when I get another truck.

The truck accessory market is extremely well developed and broad. You will be satisfied if you put in the time to find what's avail that fits you best.

I have a Decked system in my Tundra. 90% of the time I really like it, that other 10% it’s a little obnoxious as the depth of my bed is compromised. Little things like a propane tank for the grill need to be strapped in better. They’re minor things, but still times it’s annoying. Overall, the drawer system is really nice and I’ve never had any water in them.

Just remember when buying accessories for your truck that "Truck Nutz" are now illegal in Idaho.

The young kids might not appreciate the value of this,
But after the age of 65, well
I would consider it in the top three add on accessories.

Lots of options on bed covers. I have the new Peragon Tectonic on a short-bed F150. It has 3 segments, front and back fold over middle, middle can be moved forward / back. Great weather protection. Just released last month.

Same experience here with the Decked System in my ‘21 Tundra. Drawers are lockable if required, and even if you dont get the optional locks, with a locking tailgate they are not getting in. Even if they cut through your bed cover, drawers will remain secure.

I really like my Roll N Lock bed cover.

I'd also recommend either a telescoping hook (steel rake works pretty well too) for those times that something slides all the way to the front of the bed. Saves me from having to climb in and get it.
