Cream liqueurs
I'd like to buy a bottle of cream liqueur for the holidays. I've had Bailey's before and I've always liked it.

But I learned a little about bourbon this year and am aware of Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream as well as one by Ezra Brooks. I really like BT bourbon.

I want one that will be nice over rocks, in coffee and perhaps over ice cream. Open to other ways as well (not too familiar with how to use this type of liqueur).

Recommendation? Stick with Bailey's - it's the gold standard? Or move to BT? Ezra? Are the flavors very different (ie - Bailey's has noticeable chocolate notes but BTBC doesn't)?

Bailey's seems like the cream is top notch but not sure what alcohol is used.

BTBC seems like the alcohol would be top notch but not sure what level cream is used. I'm leaning here - the alcohol is good and I'm guessing cream is just cream.

No idea about Ezra - it just came up in as an option.

Bailey's is the most common but not necessarily the best flavor once you branch out.

I like drinking these liqueurs in the ways you're suggesting and besides Buffalo Trace which is quite good, two others that excel in flavor are Five Farms and The Whistler. Each is $29. Total Wine has them and they are worth seeking out. They are outstanding and worth the price without a doubt.

If you are looking for a Bailey's replacement, Kavanaugh is very good. The price is around $16.

I have the feeling that Bailey's should cost around $16 but because of marketing and hype they charge more.

My favorite cream liqueur is Amarula which I discovered while on safari in South Africa. I was pleasantly surprised when I found it on the shelves in the stores here in Utah.

Though I have no idea how far their distribution footprint is.

If you like root beer floats, 1 part Rumchata, and 3 parts A&W root beer makes a nice drink.

My wife loves chocolate martinis; I make them with Godiva chocolate liqueur. Can't find it anywhere now. Apparently not made anymore? Confused Frown

Funny you mention that. I was in Total Wine and they said they stopped carrying it. But I guess it’s done. They pointed me to Mozart as a replacement. Bought it but wife hasn’t opened it yet.

Thanks!! There is more variety than I thought.

I'll look into comparisons (vs Baileys and BTBC; tasting notes, quality of ingredients, price, etc):
Five Farms
The Whistler
Rumchata
Amarula
Moonrise
Saint Brendan's Irish Cream
Costco

Another vote for the St. Brendans. Liked the five farms, but it was a little more in price.

And a third vote for Saint Brendan's Irish Cream Liqueur. Much much better than Bailey's and cheaper to boot!

I was gonna mention this also. Bought it once as a yankee swap gift. The swap had an elephant theme and the bottle had an elephant on it. We opened it at the party and everyone enjoyed it.

I picked up a bottle of the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream at Costco and am enjoying it.

Surprisingly good in Root Beer, coffee of course, or hot chocolate.
