Man Once Child Twice |
I can’t remember the name. A local store used to sell them, but I can’t find them there now. They were a ginger bread cookie. Thanks

Delta gives them out on their planes. So if you ever fly Delta, get the cookie option and not the nuts. In Belgium you can buy it in a spread form like peanut butter. Both creamy and crunchy. I used to stock up when I’d go over there. I have seen the spread at a few grocery stores here in the US in with the peanut butter. It’s very good on some toast. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Nyackers pepparkakor ginger snaps that come in the red tins? They are Swedish though. Belgian cookies that come to mind are the Lotus Biscoff that come in red & white wrappers the PASig posted. They are not ginger snaps though. They're more of a caramel shortbread cookie.

I was on a flight coming back from Toronto and the flight was delayed. A steward rolled a cart out packed with them for those waiting so I helped myself to maybe half-a-dozen packets "for the road." Yummy.

If you're talking about Stroopwafel they're from the Netherlands and are very tasty. The authentic ones are hard to find here. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

I have seen those occasionally in the club and maybe once in first class, but the cookie they give out in genpop is Speculoos. https://www.google.com/amp/s/w...ie-butter-so-popular United used to give out Stroopwafle. Not sure if they still do. Since Covid the snack offerings have varied a lot more, especially in the clubs and in first class. It feels like now they offer whatever they can get their hands on in bulk. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Biscoff makes a spread like that. And Trader Joes offers a spread like that made with their Speculoos cookies.

That stuff is crack. Seriously. I ate a jar of it in two days. I decided it was a food stuff that I cannot have, just like my favorite gluten-free granola. That stuff is crazy good. Speculaas isn't even remotely the same as stroopwafels. They're both Dutch, not Belgian. Speculaas (approx. speck-ou-lahss) is roughly the same as what we Americans call "windmill cookies," except the American versions are usually milder than the Dutch cookie. They're made in a variety of forms--including large sheets subsequently broken into smaller pieces. They're traditionally a Christmas-time treat. Stroopwafels (approx. strohp-vah-fuls) are a kind of syrup-filled sandwich cookie. ("Stroop" is Dutch for "syrup." "Wafel" = "waffle." Thus syrupwaffle.) They're both tasty, but stroopwafels are particularly addictive. You can find them each, at times, in flavor and quality pretty darn close to what you can buy in Netherlands, at Aldi's. Interesting note: McDonald's for a short while offered a Stroopwafel McFlurry. (Allegedly in response to the McD's in Netherlands having them. Then Netherlands<->elsewhere flights having them?) It didn't really taste all that much like the cookie, but it was tasty. "America is at that awkward stage. Speculaas (Dutch) is different than Speculoos (Belgian) though they are similar. The OP asked about Belgian cookies, not Dutch cookies. If he is truly looking for Belgium cookies then he’s most likely looking for the Lotus brand Speculoos cookies that are pictured above. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014
