I've been givin a bunch of canned cheap n nasty tuna, chicken breast and a lovely can of Goya Mackerel. The feral kitties and neighbors cats are eating good. I gotta get a new bag of dry food later today. Seems to me,some TV game show used to have Goya products as part of a prize the players could win on their show. I can't imagine winning a nice can of Mackerel. Nasty damn shit. But, the kitties love it. I guess I've never tasted Mackerel. Probably fits in between tuna and sardines. What would one do with Mackerel as a food ? I just wouldn't eat it.

Like tuna, fresh mackerel and cheap canned mackerel are completely different. Also like tuna, the different types of mackerel taste different from each other. In Japan, we ate sanma, saba, and aji. I'm not sure what they're called in English, but grilled or fried, they're very mild tasting and not fishy at all when fresh.
I love grilled fresh mackerel with some strong flavors like garlic and olive oil, tomatoes and olives, but you couldn’t pay me to eat that canned shit.

I like cold smoked Mackerel. The whole fish is gutted & cleaned then smoked. It can be found at Alexey's eastern european market in Nashville. I think it is made in Atlanta.

When my son was little he wouldn't eat any meat. His favorite character from a carton was a penguin who ate mackerel, so we had to tell him everything was mackerel to get him to eat it.
