I may go look at a Raptor. Leaning towards Tundra. I could order either Tundra or Silverado through dealerships that I know well. Could look at a Bronco after next week, but I imagine they'll be pulling crazy premiums. _________________________ NRA Endowment Member _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. Toyota clearly got cheap/lazy with the lack of rear underseat storage on the Tundra Crewmax. It's one of my few complaints about an otherwise excellent truck. That said I wouldn't buy something less reliable just because of not having a bin under the rear seats. As already mentioned there are several aftermarket solutions. Even without bins I've been able to fit several important items behind the rear seat such as jumper cables, fix-a-flat, first aid kit, small jump pack, etc. When I need to bring along more tools/stuff that wouldn't fit under the rear seat anyway I just load a Rubbermaid Action Packer bin in the bed. I bet the new redesigned Tundra model coming out soon will have better rear storage.

I'm a Ram guy - always have been (rest of the fam is chevy). The interiors over my three trucks (98 Dakota, 2008 1500 and now a 2019 1500) are head and shoulders above it's peers. Heck my 2019 even has in floor storage (for stuff like receiver hitches and ratchet straps). The back seat area is huge - if the rear seats aren't needed I can fit a pile of stuff back there since the floor is flat. There are two 'glove boxes' in the passenger side dash (I didn't even know the one was there until I was armoralling the dash and pushed this flat button looking thing). The center console is large and has a sliding tray that is very handy. If you're looking for in cab creature comforts - sit in a new Ram with a mid grade package (or higher). I reject your reality and substitute my own. --Adam Savage, MythBusters

THIS. For my business I have always used an Expedition with the 3rd row seat folded into the floor. Everything is at waste level, locked, out of the rain, easy to slide in and out, can even carry 4x8' sheets of plywood with the second row folded down. The only downside is if I was hauling gasoline or something stinky (which 99.5% of the time I don't). That being said I got a F 150 crew cab as a rental and it had plenty of storage. The 2nd row seats also folded flat and plenty of interior storage if you weren't hauling more than 3 people (it had the bench seat where the middle folded down to make a center console which had storage, the bottom of the middle of the front row seat also had storage).

I have a new Ram 1500 and as previously mentioned there is storage everywhere. Theres a bunch of up front storage with the console or bench seat. The rear is basically flat and there are huge coolers / storage areas on each side of the rear in the floor. ALso nice as it sits under the mat and you dont know its there unless you are familiar with it. Underseat has plenty of storage and they added a few inches to the legroom. I'm 6'2 and would have a ton of space if I ever rode back there. Like my knees would need a backpack mounted in front of them to touch the seat in front. Great truck so far.

If you want storage and ergonomics in a half ton, the current RAM is your solution. And the Mega Cab 2500/3500 just takes it to another level. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. This thread reminds me of a middle-aged man who quickly sells his recently-bought 911 because it lacked sufficient space for his golf clubs. For just over 30k, you can buy a new DC, 5.7L long-bed Tundra work truck. You can then buy a separate sedan, CUV, etc for date night, golfing, etc. Let the truck be a dang truck.

For real. I wouldn’t trade Toyota reliability for more storage space. If I need more storage I use a large plastic tote and throw it in the bed under the soft cover. And the amount of stuff I carry in that isn’t going to fit in the in-cab storage spaces of any pickup on the market. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Whaddayamean I can't get a 1 ton pickup truck that seats 9, has covered storage for all their gear on a monthlong golf trip, goes 0-60 in under 3 seconds, corners like a Formula 1 racecar, has a convertible top, fulltime AWD, an ultra smooth and silent ride, and an extended truck bed capable of fitting 18 foot crossbeams flat, for under $30k? (I kid, but seriously... Every vehicle is a compromise. Figure out what handful of features are most important to you, and buy accordingly. )

Now you're talking, Rogue! The "storage" to which I'm referring wouldn't be appropriate for a plastic tote in the bed of the truck, n'est-ce pas? _________________________ NRA Endowment Member _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. I understand. It'd be a shame for someone to take off with your Beanie Baby collection. If you're talking about firearms, there are some really cool storage options for under the 2nd row of a number of different truck models. Many of which are lockable. Or if you really want to haul a bunch of guns, there are weatherproof and lockable in-bed trays that are installed on the floor of the truck bed, similar to this:

I dunno but I think you need to narrow down what you need out of this new vehicle. You say you want a new truck and interior storage space is very important.
Then...
Yet the Forerunner has no bed at all?
But it only has a 5 1/2' bed.
Which has no bed either? What does "All I want is capable, but broadly capable" mean to you? No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

The man just wants a sporck trutility vehicle with a fully enclosed yet open extended compact bed. Surely that's not too much to ask?

Yeah, I'm going back and forth a bit. It's called "shopping". I'd like something very capable but also that I enjoy looking at, getting into, driving and using. The last silverado and their current offerings don't do that. Like I said before, I guess I just need some Federal grants and to start a new auto company. Loved the 97.5 Tahoe that I custom designed. Would still have it except was compelled to give it to the MiL, who proceeded, as predicted, to total it. Loved the 01 Silverado which was destroyed by a woman on her cell phone. Loved the 14 silverado which was destroyed by a woman blinded by her Burka. Meh on the 15 and 17 silverados. Nah on the 19s & 20s. _________________________ NRA Endowment Member _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. I didn't expect to keep my 2008 Ridgeline 12 years but I still enjoy driving it and it fills my needs, only 60k miles too so barely broken in. I do gunshows regularly and I can get 2 heavy storage crates in the rear along with my table covers. My cart and chair go in the bed easily. I put a bakflip folding cover on mine when I bought it and it still works like new. I don't care about offroad but I do care about reliable awd for everyday driving and the RL is sure footed in s. Indiana weather. I considered buying a Hertz Sequoia a few months ago during the bankrupt fire sale and selling the RL but instead bought a 2014 low miles Chevy Express 2500 passenger van for cheap money to tow my boat and kept both for less than the Seq would have cost. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

^ It is helpful to hear what others have enjoyed and still enjoy that I might not have otherwise looked at, like the Honda and Ram. _________________________ NRA Endowment Member _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. LOL Oh I am not one to suggest what you should want, but but maybe describing your needs would help us understand what you mean by "very capable". How many people will you want to carry in comfort? What and how often will you be hauling in the bed? Will you be towing a trailer, if so how heavy? If not carrying stuff in the bed often what about just buying a utility trailer to use behind a shorter bed truck or even an SUV which'll have lots of interior room? Is ride and handling part of "capable" or is a more truck like ride ok? Do you plan on just driving it on all types of roads from small dirt and curvy country, to Interstates? Or do you want something more capable for off-roading on trails, rock climbing, mud bogging, etc? No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

We had 4 pickups over 25 years, but that was long before this annoying and useless center island divider crap started. ( Pre 1994) After riding in two of the recent model year pickups, I Would skip the whole p/u truck deal and get a full size van instead With One row of rear seats. But ! We are old farts w/ three pair of glasses each, Cell phones, Two books to read while waiting for each other a drink cup or bottle, sometimes an insulated lunch box Then! The dog might come along, on occasion, so A leash ,water bowl, smallish crate, A queen sized lap pillow. So I know what you are talking about Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first
