Within the last month? I managed to go years without hearing or the need to use it. Now, it's as tiresome as "having said that", "that being said"

Ok, rant over, thank you!

On the whole, if you plug everything into the proper algorithm, its a win win. Having said that, at the end of the day, it's neither here nor there.

For public consumption. Basically it states that the real reason for the problem is too complicated for the public to understand. Once glitch became acceptable we will see more. no further investigation or explanation forthcoming. Like Hillary wiping her server with a cloth

I don't know. It's been familiar to computer folks for ages now. Like many things, I guess, it finally spills over into a broader audience / pop culture. Like Hack/hacker/hacking, and a bunch of other formerly esoteric-ish terms.

Saying "A.I." is the new cool. Use it in a sentence with the words infrastructure or cloud, and you've got yourself a silicon valley bingo.

oh yeah, I forgot the all too often use of A I by the media.

My algorithms & A I gleaned from a Japanese robot tell me Robert Mueller and Jeff Sessions are simply collecting pay checks for doing nothing.

For decades, only nerds and geeks had ever heard it, unless you were in between naps in a math class.

Some of those nerds and geeks became really, really rich so the duffuses who heard them talking started to figure that these were cool terms. Most wouldn’t know an algorithm if one bit them on the butt.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I haven't heard the term being overused, but I don't get out much either. In the tech biz we don't overuse the term, but we do use other words that mean the same thing. I know how you feel though. When the media drones were all using the term gravitas, I thought I was going to hang myself. It appears that the lower the intelligence of the media person speaking, the more likely you are to hear the stupid phrase of the month. The media talking heads seem to be the worst offenders, and I truly believe it correlates directly with their individual stupid quotient. Generally I find people employed in media and politics are the dumbest people on earth, though I don't know how they're smart enough to make money on it, since in my world, money is tied to skills, ability, and intelligence. It's a weird combination if you ask me. So can you say 'Nicaragua' or 'Maria' with the most stupid accent you can muster ? I hate that too.

I agree with Jallen that the people who use it most often are the least qualified to use the term.

Algorithm jumped the shark for me w/ the show Numb3rs.

In each episode, the FBI agent solicits the assistance of his mathematician brother, who helps solve every crime by coming up w/ the right algorithm.

^^^what, you don’t like string theory? :-)

Wife liked that show but I thought it sucked. Like watching a smart version of the A-team. Every episode followed the same algorithm/ formula.

OMG, you just pushed the button of one of my most infuriating media rants, the hispanic female journalist, usually on NPR, who speaks flawlessly unaccented American English but lays on the most pretentious latino accent when pronouncing any Spanish word including her own name.

Repeatedly hearing "apoplectic" made me apoplectic.

Remember when it was 'erudite'? Someone said 'erudition' on Meet the Press one Sunday and for six months after every talking head found a reason to use that word or its variants.

How about 'gravitas'? remember that one?
