Took the boy for some ice cream after a haircut today and about the time a neighborhood private school got out so tons of elementary school car pool kids.

All were using Apple Pay.
Does one just buy iTunes gift cards and load them on the phone?
What is the deal. Is it safe would be nice for my wife not to have to dig in the purse while holding kiddos.

How do you know who takes it?

You enter your credit card info into the Apple Pay app, it generates a token whenever you make a purchase through it, the vendor redeems that token for the purchase price of the item and Apple charges your card. The vendor never sees your financial information.

It's wheel easy.

Tagged. I've been wondering about this stuff as well.

I like the question about gift cards / Visa gift cards. I keep getting Visa gift cards which are a hassle to use at times. Can itunes gift cards and Visa gift cards be used?

That's up in the air. Apple Pay works with cards from a list of approved banks. If you've got an obscure gift card, it may not work.

Confirmed. Didn’t take my visa gift card. These things are such a pain to use.

When Apple charges your card, does it appear as the vendor or Apple.

Apple pay should be very secure as you info is never giving to the retailer.

Now is your info safe with Apple? They already it since you likely have an iTunes account. I like that every retailer you use doesn't get all your info.

Chip cards when using the chip are also much safer than traditional magnetic strips. They transmit a unique transaction code which is good for that transaction only.

Apple Pay is safer. The vendor never gets your real card number. While with a chip card the vendors as your number in their system. You need to hope they have it encrypted. Many don't and will never tell you.

In my job we store encrypted credit card files, and we are also switching over to encrypted tokenizarion for greater security where we no longer have even the encrypted card info on our system.

I always use Apple Pay over a card. Make sure you never use a debit card, I don't want my cash tied up in a dispute.

It is also great because more often then not you forget your wallet, but not your phone.

I recently posted something in the iOS11 thread which also said that Apple Pay is safer than chip + pin, which isn't even here yet.

No, you have to activate it when the terminal is asking for "card" information.

With the Apple watch it rocks Smile You just double-tap the long button, select the card you want to use, hold it near the terminal, your watch vibrates, done.

It is often faster than swiping or inserting a card, particularly since there's no getting out the wallet, removing card, swipe/insert, put card back, put wallet back.

Given how Apple designed the system, I regard it as much more secure than using your card directly. I use it every chance I get.

I love Apple Pay it is very convenient. You just hold your phone over the credit card reader and press the home button. It must be set up to use your fingerprint ID which prevents just anyone from being able to charge with your phone

Is there a way of telling one takes Apple Pay?
Like the CC logo stickers on doors or something? Does the machine look a certain way, or do you just have to ask? I have never paid attention.

Yes, there is a logo on the device they accept payment on. I just started using it recently - it is pretty convenient.

It is as a safe as a credit card. Uses the same payment and money movement as a credit card.

Apple Pay and Android Pay are about the same thing. Only you and your bank know your CC or debit card number.

At a pay terminal that accepts either you unlock your phone (each system requires you to unlock your phone via PIN, fingerprint or facial) before you can use it.

Just place it on top of the terminal and the process begins. Your financial instituion creates a virtual CC number for the transaction which is what shows up on the receipt and not your debit card number.

Very safe and convenient. But here's the one kicker:

Even though a place accepts either system, it doesn't mean the system is working that day at that merchant. For example, McDonalds accepts both and I went through the drive thru and at the pay window I asked to pay using Android Pay. Their system was down so I had to wipe out my wallet. So when it's up and running, it's really convenient and safe to use but it isn't perfect but it's gettin there.

Use it with confidence.

I like Apple Pay, and use it frequently. I’ve left home without my wallet recently, but almost never without my phone. Just put the phone near the terminal and the Wallet app launches automatically. Put my thumb on the home button fingerprint sensor, and transaction complete. Much faster than chip cards.

Even the vending machines at my office now take Apple Pay. They don’t have a specific logo for Apple, just this symbol.

Only in that they're both mobile payment systems. Their implementations are significantly different from one another. Android's dodgy O/S and Play Store security aside: Apple Pay's mechanism is arguably much more secure than Android Pay's.

I'll put it this way: I would never in a million years have trusted my cards to the Android system. I had no qualms about Apple's at all.

That's incorrect wrt Android Pay. Your CC info is on both your device and on Google's servers.

As an aside: I've no clue how Samsung's payment system works. Never cared enough to find out. I trust Samsung even less than I do Google/Android. Far less.

I like Apple Pay and am slowly finding more merchants that accept it. More convenient than taking out a credit card, and it seems more secure. It works really well with the iWatch.
