With the iPhone, you "activate" it by simply holding the phone near the POS terminal. Apple Pay cards show up, whether the phone is locked or unlocked, then just Touch ID to complete the transaction if you use your default card. Or you can select the card you want then Touch ID.

I love Apple Pay! I’ve been using it since it was released without issue. From my end (card statements etc) I see no difference between swiping my card or using Apple Pay. For the ultimate in convenience, Apple Pay with Apple Watch. It’s freaking great. Double tap the side button, hold watch up to scanner and you’re done. No need to even pull your phone out do your pocket. Once the watch leaves your wrist, Apple Pay cannot be used until the watch is unlocked. It’s really handy.

I guess it depends. On my statements it says "Applepay ..." and I have to figure it out who it was. I used to like Applepay over inserting a chip card because it was much faster. Place the phone near the thing, you hear a little ding and feel a vibration and it's done. But now I notice the chip readers are getting much faster than before. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I like it on my iPhone 6s but don't know a lot of places yet that take around here. When places statrt taking it more I will start using it more. The clerks a Wal Mart are always trying to get me to install their pay app. Also as someone else already mentioned, I don't trust google wallet period. I noticed the Costco gas pumps had the logo. I asked the attendant if it worked since I hadn't seen it before. He said the Apple Pay will be available soon and by using my Costco Visa, it will also see my membership info. Easy is good. Are there any downsides to it? Security and/or privacy? I’ve read the Pay privacy notice about three times and still not sure if it’s okay or not. I generally use a CC for two things: online purchases and pay at the pump gas. Everything else I use cash. I have been trying Apple Pay since I got my first iPhone last summer and I love it. At first only the vending machines at work took it but now I see it at the grocery store and the gas station I use. I use it everytime I can as I consider it much more secure than running a CC. One year alone I had my CC "skimmed" at three different gas stations. Holy crap what a pain. Apple has a white paper that explains their security model. I'm not a "techie" but it was understandable enough to me that I much prefer it now. iOS 10 White Paper

None of which I'm aware. As I and others have noted, previously: I believe it's more secure than using the card(s) you register with it.
What about the AP privacy notice gives you pause? Perhaps Apple CEO Tim Cook's Apple’s commitment to your privacy will lay your concerns to rest? Excerpt:

I have been looking for the logo posted earlier and see it is coming soon at Speedway gas pumps locally. I saw the ApplePay logo on the McDonalds drive thru window. Not sure I would want to hand my phone to the worker as I saw nothing to hold the phone near at the window. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. That's interesting. I use Apple Pay with a Capital One card. Maybe a year or so ago, I tried to link my Costco VISA to Apple Pay and it did not work. I contacted citibank and asked about this; they told me that Apple Pay was not available for the Costco VISA card. As I said, that was a year or more ago. Maybe this has changed; I'll have to try it again. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

I ran into the same thing with my CU Visa card. Asked them about it. "We're working on it." Got new cards (chipped). Still no go. So far I'm limited to using my AmEx card.
