Buried deep in this "budget" bill is a provision that requires all car manufacturers install a "kill" switch into new cars, trucks, or SUV's. That kill switch must provide access for Federal, State, and Local law enforcement. In addition of the car is being driven in an "aggressive or impaired manner detected by an algorithm (written by the above stated Law Enforcement agencies) that will immediately shut the vehicle down.

Bottomline is very simple. This device will allow our government to shut down private or personal transportation at will. It will probably start out as limiting vehicle speeds "all for Safety" but at some point it will allow the government to lock down any resistance by shutting down our vehicles.

I would say we need to start a letter writing campaign but that really is not enough. Pass the word along to anyone you know and if they are libtards slant it in a manner that sounds like they will first in line for this treatment.

Oh boy cannot wait for that to be hacked and used in a different manner than intended.

Sounds illegal and highly dangerous for an algorithm to decide and then shut down a vehicle. You could get shut down at a very dangerous area to be stopped which could actually get you killed since people don’t pay attention.

Speed is one of the worst measures of dangerous driving anyhow. As I’ve said before I speed every time I get in my car and I’m the only person I know over 50 who has never been in a moving accident. I credit years of motorcycling that keeps me attentive 100% of the time.

The words "kill switch" are nowhere to be found in the language of the Infrastructure Investment and Job Acts. In fact, the whole thing is misleading because if you're thinking of installing a kill switch in a car, you're probably motivated by theft deterrence.

What some media are referring to as the "Kill Switch Law" is actually Sec. 24220 of the Act called "Advanced impaired driving technology." It allows the government to require that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) create vehicles that "passively monitor the performance of a motor vehicle driver to identify accurately whether that driver may be impaired."

Is this the same type of vehicle disabling technology I've been hearing about since the mid-'90s from the conspiracy theorist I used to work with? Time to run around screaming like my hair's on fire.

It would be difficult to implement and I’d wager easy to have someone change the mapping to excise it from the ECM. You might have to do it any time you take the car to a dealer for service if they flash your ECM with updates.

It's not illegal if it's specifically mandated by federal law.

My car already has this. If you cross a line more than once or hug one line or the other a cup of coffee appears on the dash and says you seem tired, take a few to rest (or something similar). It has built in WiFi and cellular connections. Presumably they could push an update that instead of suggesting rest forces it.

All it would have to do is pull itself over then disable the gear shifter. It already contains all the hardware to do this right now, just needs a software update.

Onstar often will shut off stolen vehicles at the request of LE.

Some years ago, some of the sleazier "buy here, pay here" car dealerships were installing remote access kill switches into the cars they sold. Dont make your monthly payment? Kill the car! Often while you drove on the interstate. Or it wouldnt start when you needed to get to the hospital. Many lawsuits resulted and IIRC, some states made them illegal.
