As Extraordinary as Everyone Else ![]() |
I have had the pleasure of being a member of this esteemed group for a few years, first just reading the comments then joining and slowly commenting where I thought I could contribute something worthwhile. SF is a very unique place as I’m sure most of you would agree. With Para running a tight ship in an otherwise Wild West internet sphere we come here for a little sanity and good natured back and forth. Thank you Para! There are also several members here who I genuinely enjoy reading their point of view, even if they sometimes may not align with mine, they are usually well reasoned and I respect that. If I tried to mention those individuals I would surely miss some so I will refrain from doing so except for one of our members who is no longer with us JALLEN. His wit and reasoning was something I will always cherish.. I have long wondered how I could repay my appreciation for being allowed to participate here and a couple of years ago an idea fell into my lap. A gentleman by the name of Jerry Barnes reached out to my wife and mentioned that he was retired military and his retirement “project” was to collect stories of combat veterans and publish them so that other people could appreciate the price many have paid for our freedoms. My FIL, Marvin Young, who some of you may remember me asking about identifying some oh his WW2 photographs, was a highly decorated soldier although he rarely talked about it. During his later years he developed severe PTSD and as part of his therapy was asked to write down his experiences which he did with excruciating detail. Theses notes became the basis for Jerry’s third book and along with stories from other veterans was turned into “ Vignettes of Valor”. So my humble karma is two give away 2 copies of this book to anyone who may be interested in military history and first hand experiences. All profits from Jerry’s books goes to New Freedom Farm, an equestrian therapy facility to help people with PTSD. I will buy these copies through Amazon and ask the recipients if they feel like doing so to please leave a brief review to help Jerry get his stories the exposure he deserves. Here is a picture of the cover as well as some of the chapters. I will let the karminator pick the winners in a couple of weeks. Thanks! ![]() ![]() UPDATE ****** Thanks to Mark123 for the Karmanator, the winners are silverado224 and SW Sig. Please email me at the email in my profile and please put Sig Karma in the subject line. I’ll send the book out to you via Amazon asap. Thanks to all for playing! This message has been edited. My Uncle died in WW2 in his airplane over Germany. I never met him; I was born in the 1950's. My Mother (sister brother relationship) never got over the loss and told me many stories about him. I'd love to read this book and I will pass it on to my siblings to read. Thank you for your very kind and considerate offer and for your FIL. . | |||
