Until last week I wasn’t aware that Europe had different twist tops on their plastic bottles. At first I was somewhat annoyed by them but my kids are notorious for losing screw on bottle caps so I have warmed up to them. I am beginning to prefer them over the kind we have in the USA. They can be ripped off and used like the kind we have in the US thought not quite as easily. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Discovered this same thing in Lisbon earlier this month. I prefer it. The only downside is you have to screw the cap back on without the plastic interfering with the thread alignment or your bottle will leak.

I agree, I am trying to avoid plastics as much as possible due to possible health implications.

After spending a couple of months in Ireland, I got used to them, when I came back, I got used to ours again. I'm going to say I like the hinged ones better at this point - if for anything, I don't have to worry about dropping the cap in the dirt before I finish the bottle.

I didn’t even know; I don’t buy soda or water in bottles (or cans). I filter my own water. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

I was first exposed to them when I purchased a bottle of Irn-Bru from H-E-B. While they are detestable to actually use, I frequently go on walks and discarded bottle caps are the most common bit of detritus I see. I hate seeing them strewn about. We should absolutely be using the hinged bottle cap. I hate them, but I hate seeing discarded bottle caps that much more. I need a fourth option. I hate them, but they’re necessary.

After living in Europe for several years, those tops often annoyed our family. We still don’t like them, as we feel it gets in the way of drinking. They also are not that easy to tear off.

Cans are lined with a plastic coating anyhow so it doesn’t really matter. Regarding the Op, I like the European style. Discovered them when I went to Italy last year. These go to eleven.

Don’t really care. I drink and recap, drink and recap etc. anyway so I have the cap at all times no matter what. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

The Caps don't bother me one way or the other. But the Girl Friend on the other hand, what pisses her off is No Diet Coke, only that nasty Coke Zero (that I prefer).

Saw these for the first time in Norway this past March. FYI - I noticed they were distinctly absent on our layover in Heathrow on the way back. I was surprised they weren’t also there (maybe it’s an EU mandate, but you’d think the bottling would be the same wherever the UK is getting theirs…). It took about a minute to get used to drinking with them attached, but after that, I found it to be very convenient. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Like 'em. Generally I don't buy water or other drinks in plastic bottles or cans at home. I like to carry a decent filter water bottle. But for those times when that isn't practical, I like not losing the plastic cap to fumble fingers or having to hang on to it while drinking.
