Queen Elizabeth (wonder if her friends call her Betty or Beth??) has decreed that Prince Charles second wife will be allowed to be referred to as Queen Consort upon the Princes ascension to the throne. My question is ..does her decree stand after her death or is the new ruler able to issue new rules??

I’m certainly no expert but I would expect that when Charles becomes King he can do whatever he wants. This is assuming that he lives long enough to actually ascend to the throne!

Whatever happened to "Charles will never be King."? Didn't she once say that?

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I cannot claim any expertise in the doings of the British Monarchy, but to me this sounds like a barely-veiled insult. After all, what is the wife of the King usually called? Yes. that's right, "the Queen." To call her the "Queen Consort" instead seems to me to be a reduction in rank. Remember that Lizzie's hubby Philip was called the "Prince Consort," maybe this is no more than some sort of Royal pissing contest.

And didn't we fight win a war not to have to pay attention to this nonsense?

No insult here. Wives of British monarchs are referred to as a Queen Consort (a spousal queen without the power to rule), to distinguish them from a true Queen aka a Queen Regnant (a ruling Queen, like Elizabeth). The monarch holds the ruling status; their spouse merely holds the social status.

Husbands of British monarch are referred to as Prince Consorts, to distinguish them from royal Princes in line to rule as King. They're not referred to as King or King Consort, because the non-ruling husband cannot outrank his ruling wife.

If Camila isn't from the Royal class, think earls, dukes, etc, she probably cannot be queen. But I'm just guessing here.

Dis dame. Hubba, hubba.

I believe she is possibly that last really effective monarch, one who husbanded the British Royal Family writ large through an unparalleled period of societal change. And it did not help that her heir and his spouse were unable to keep their extramarital affairs private.

Born: 21 April 1926
First radio address: 13 October 1940
Married: 20 November 1947
Coronation as Queen: 02 June 1953
Widowed: 09 April 2021

Congratulations on your Platinum Jubilee, Your Majesty. Well done, well done indeed.

Remember, she's Charles wife #2 and not the mother of his children who may factor into the equation at some point. One of his children is looking less like an option for eventual King material too.
Maybe that's part of the issue here.
Glad it doesn't really concern us.

Diana was a head case. Borderline personality disorder, bulimic, a bunch of issues. She was good in front of the press and the public, but Charles just got tired of her shit after enough time.

And then prince Harry married a Narcissist (same cluster disorders as a borderline) probably because she reminded him of his dead mother. And he is being destroyed by her in her effort to upstage the entire royal family.

No, you are not aware of how the titles and succession works here. The term "consort" has been used for hundreds of years now with the British Monarchy. Where is tacfoly to set us all straight here?

I don't really follow the Monarchy but am always intensely jealous of the military uniforms they wear and the British military in general. They know how to do a dress uniform right and not look like a dumpy ragbag with a uniform a size or two too large like our guys sadly often do. The ONLY ones that even come close are the Marines with the dress greens and dress blues.

I think the Queen is a class act. The rest of the family... Not so much! And one of the things I find most confusing about Brit society is why they havent done away with the Monarchy.
Tacfoley will be in shortly to give us his current take on the Royals, I imagine.

a) She is not descended from the Royal Family, so can never be Queen in her own right

b) She is divorced, so can never be Queen.

c) She is catholic, so can never be Queen as the Queen/King is the head of the protestant Church of England

d) It's just a title and has no actual Monarchial powers attached to it.

The queen is a class act and a woman to admire. Unfortunately her behavior is from a forgotten time....at least forgotten by most.

I won't comment on the rest of the Royal family...although it seems William and his family are doing the right thing.

And don't get me started about Harry ....I had such high hopes Roll Eyes
