Just got the news that longtime forum member rburg has passed away. Dick was a true gun guy and was a wonderful instigator at Kentucky gun shows - he kept things lively. Dick was born on January 20, 1948, to John and Louise (Krombach) Burg. He built a life centered around family, quiet strength, and a deep commitment to those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Theresa Burg (née Valent), his sons, Steven Burg (Gina) and Jeffrey Burg (Andrea) , and his brother, Tom Burg (Pat). Dick was a proud grandfather to Brady (Brittany), Alexis (Jack), Tyler, Alyssa, Luke, Alexandra, and Max, and a great-grandfather to Creed. His family was the center of his world, and he took great joy in watching it grow across generations. A man of few words, Dick showed his love through his actions, providing for his family and always being a steady, reliable presence. He cherished his role as a grandfather and found great pride and happiness in his grandchildren. Dick retired from Topicz, Inc. in 2010, where he served as an Information Technology Manager for 20 years. He was respected for his dedication and steady work ethic throughout his career. Dick had a lifelong passion for off-roading and adventure. Over the years, he owned several Jeeps and led many trails through Moab, Utah, and the mountains of Colorado. He was a dedicated member of the IOK Jeep Four Wheelers Club for over 40 years, where he served on the board and in various leadership roles, forming lasting friendships along the way. Dick will be remembered for his dedication to his family, and the many memories created both at home and out on the trails. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Burg. Per Dick’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service or celebration of life. Dick was a character. He even had a short-lived reality TV series on the Discovery Channel: Next Door Dick Seriously, I knew him for many years and he will be missed. It's funny- I never knew his age until now, but the way you'd hear Dick tell it, he was well past 100. He'd say "I'm old. I mean I'm REALLY old." He spoke his mind, and that's a fact, and if he were here, he'd tell you so. | |||

Damn. When I moved to Cincinnati in 2002, Dick showed up to help me move in. Never met him in real life, just on the Forum. I didn't ask him for help, just asked Cincy folks for advice on where to live in the city. He just showed up. Really helpful guy. Haven't corresponded with him in years. I’ve thought of him and his absence from the forum often. He just seemed like a salt of the earth kind of guy that knew how to live without taking life too seriously. I think my favorite story of his was when he was trying to sell a collectible ash try of some sort for like $5 at a gun show or flea market or something similar. Some guy kept coming over to him and offering a quarter and being a pest about it as well. Finally at the end of the show the guy came up to him and despite Dick offering to sell the ash tray for like $2, the guy asked if Dick was ready to take that quarter for the ash tray yet. Dick’s response was to smash the ash tray with a hammer. The guy was taken aback and asked why he would smash the ash tray like that, it was worth almost $100 or something like that. Dick responded that he should have bought it for $2 then. I will miss him and his stories.
