It might well have been, but at this very early stage, there is no way any reporter can know it was a "heart attack" in its strictest sense. Some outlets report it as a "cardiac arrest". A cardiac arrest could also be due to some other things, besides a heart attack. It could well have been a primary arrhythmia without any coronary blockage that killed him. And you know, he just came back from Ukraine after meeting with Zelenskyy, so it could also have been a massive pulmonary thromboembolism (PE), a huge clot blocking blood flow in one of the lungs. Also, I know some will say it's "tinfoil", but it's not far fetched to think that some foreign actor(s) might have knocked him off. Point of all this is, we do not know what truly cause his death, until an autopsy is done, if one is allowed.

Saw it posted on X and came here to see if it was real…

I have mixed feelings about him. Some of his positions I supported but some I definitely didn’t. Fortunately the SC governor is a Republican so hopefully the replacement will be a MAGA supporter instead of somebody like Niki Hailey…

Damn, this is unexpected.

I didn't agree with him on various issues, and his initial treatment of Trump in 2016 was stupid, but I don't put him in the same RINO camp as Collins, Murkowski, O'Connell, or even McCain or Romney. After meeting Trump for the first time in early 2017, they quickly became friends and allies on many things. IMO it would have been better for the country if he had lived instead of died.

Emergency personnel responded to his home in Washington on a reported cardiac arrest on Saturday evening, according to NBC News.

President Trump commented early Sunday on Truth Social about the passing of the senator, calling him a "true American Patriot."

Trump said, "Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!!"

To note, Graham was on an Iranian kill list. Just days ago, Trump said if he was assassinated, then "bomb them at levels never seen before."

Graham was once a fierce Trump critic, denouncing him during the 2016 presidential campaign before transforming into one of his most loyal supporters. He also advocated a hard line against Iran and consistently backed a strong US military posture overseas.

Greatest friend to the MIC...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

This was a shocker to hear on the local news.

Either I don't remember or never knew that he served in the Air force, Air force Reserves, and the SC Air National Guard.

I will be honest, I was hit or miss with him most of the time, but he is/was still better than a lot of them. That includes Local, County, State, etc..

Sad news indeed. He was on our side most of the time and came around to be a pretty solid Trump supporter. A little more of a war hawk than my liking, but to be fair I don't agree with anybody on every issue.

One of my group text already has 1 conspiracy prone person saying it was an assassination.

As 12131 said, it could've been a PE as he had just been on a longhaul flight the day before.

Another strong possibility is Congressman/Senators drink like fish on the DC cocktail circuit and he had been doing that for 31.5 years. In 2026, Sen Kennedy wrote that Graham "loves alcohol like nothing else.” 3 decades of heavy drinking puts accumulative stress on the heart with hypertension, arrhythmias, and/or cardiomyopathy.

That's just 2 of the many, many possibilities more likely for a 71 year old heavy drinker than assassination.

He was certainly hit or miss with me as well. I will wait for facts before my mind races off to conspiracy theories or anything else.

Some people just love a good conspiracy theory and won't let it go. Nice to have a little credible evidence to back things up but that never stopped them before.
Hopefully there will be a clear-cut cause and a transparent autopsy process.

I have mixed feelings about Graham but he's above at least 80% of the others in the DC crowd.

McMasters will appoint his replacement. Graham was up 27.9 in his senate race according to the RealClear average.
