My gun/sportsmans club is two miles away & cost me $35 a year for family membership. It has a pistol range, 25-100 yard rifle range, trap/skeet range, and a nice cowboy action range with 8 different stations.

I definitely get my moneys worth out of it.Smile

Mine is a outdoor range. $150 year I don’t get to go as often as I like . I stay on it to have the option to go. If you lose membership it is pretty hard to get a spot back on membership.

I have 2 range memberships.

1st is an outdoor range at a local sportsmans club. $50 year, 10yd pistol, 25, 50 and 100yd rifle range, 3d Archery Range, Muzzleloader range, etc.. Don't use it often but I've been a member there for 30+ years.

2nd is an indoor range at a local gun shop. Think its 12 lanes, 19yd max, can handle up to 50bmg with a wet trap system. Price is $250 a year but I always sign up over Christmas when they do 10% off. Its just for me but I get 6 guest passes per year and 3% off all purchases in their shop. Also get free standard gun rentals (not full auto) just need to buy the ammo from them for their rental guns.

My outdoor range has about 20 different shooting disciples including full auto & 13 covered "pistol" bays to about 60 yards, 2 shotgun ranges, indoor 22, covered main rifle range to 200; ready to expand more as the budget allows. Some bays are set up for falling
steel plate racks, others accommodate any paper set up target you bring along. Main range has permanent target mounting lines at 50/100/150/200 yrds.

dues this year are $82 plus 12 hrs work bond. I usually get out there every couple weeks. Being retired helps hit the sweet spot for range times.

I paid, I think, $250 last year to the indoor/outdoor club I belong to. This year they reclassified me as a Senior, so it dropped to $197. It's a nice place, with 50/100yd and 200/300/600yd rifle ranges, 200yd black powder / silhouette range, outdoor 25/50yd pistol range, indoor 50' rimfire range, trap/skeet/sporting clays, and a 13-bay tactical/IPSC/IDPA/CASS range that a lot of the area LE agencies also train on. Oh, and a 100yd outdoor .22 range.

I only get out there about once a month on average, and usually just for the rifle ranges. It was $100/year when I joined about 15 years ago; they've been ratcheting the dues up, but they've also been making some major safety and usability improvements, so I think it's worth it. My alternatives are another club an hour and a half's drive across town (vs about a half hour to the current club), or driving up into the hills and finding a logging road and a clearcut to shoot in. The latter is a PITA and also a pain in my bad knee. The club across town is a nice facility too, they have a 1000 yard rifle range and we only have 600. I belonged to that one for a while but left when they got into some EPA trouble (lead shot falling into an adjacent wetland). So I'll renew again when it comes due this summer. It'll probably be the last time though as I'm getting ready to retire and will be leaving Oregon by mid-2023 or so (sooner if I can arrange it).

This seems the crux. If it's something you don't use, and you don't see that changing then doing something different with the money makes sense.

I pay about $20 a month for the outdoor range. I don't use it nearly enough for all the same reasons the OP mentioned.

I keep it because when I do want to use it, it is there. Fortunately $20 a month is well within discretional budget for me.

My range membership went from $90, $100, to $250 in the last 3 years. I was using it several times a month during the pandemic and will continue to do so. I am on a waiting list for another range about the same distance away that is better suited to my needs and that will be $250 once I get a chance to join. I’ve let memberships come and go in times when I wasn’t shooting enough to justify the cost, but my current range doesn’t make you qualify to use it.

I pay $150 dues, and you're required to buy stock at $40 x 4 until you reach 20 or 30 shares. Went zero times in last two years first time was last week or week before. That was $620 I paid for not going, seriously considered dropping it, but I like being able to go if/when I want and not be around the general public. I'd go more often, but the 3hr round trip is a pain.

Honestly it makes no sense to keep the membership, but I am for some reason.

My Sportsmen's Club is $130/year, but once you have 10 years consecutive and age over 65 it's free.

Outdoor ranges have pistol range, targets can be set out to 25 yards or less. Rifle side is 50 and 100 yard with a 300 yard being constructed right now. Steel targets on both of these too if you wish to shoot steel.

Another outdoor pistol only range with hand cranked target carriers along with some steel to shoot. It's out to 25 yards.

Indoor range, heated/AC, is 50 feet with motorized target carriers. You can set target at any distance you like.

Outdoor archery range, with an indoor range too.

Two shotgun trap, skeet ranges with nice clay thrower houses. You can bring your own thrower if you wish.

Clubhouse has pool table, nice commercial grade kitchen.

Whole building back-up propane generator for power failures.

It's a great value for $130/year.

There is a state owned range 15 minutes from my house where I can shoot for $8 with the Senior discount. Pretty empty on weekdays.

There is also an Isaac Walton League range close by which is $200 per year. I've thought about it, but at $8 per time I would never break even.

The club that I belong to was $160 / year when I joined. It has worked its way up to $250. This is for the primary member. Spouse and offspring under 18 are free.

I have thought about dropping, but it is the only outdoor facility within reasonable driving distance for me. None of the indoor ranges near me allow drawing from holster, multiple targets, shooting while moving, etc. -- all of these are permitted at the club.

Membership is required, not open to the public unless accompanied by a member.

holdem, based on low usage and other options in town, letting your $260 annual membership lapse is a reasonable option. You don't have to keep paying for a membership you don't use.

Over here, I pay $75 annual club dues. The Gulf Rifle & Pistol Club operates an outdoor range for shotgun (trap), pistol (25 yd), and rifle (100, 200, 300 yd) near Port St. Joe in the Florida panhandle. NRA membership is not a requirement for gun club membership. I go to that range about 3 or 4 times a year, usually bringing a family member so they can work on safe gun handling skills. My guests pay a $10 range fee. On quiet days at the gun range, my blood pressure feels lower regardless of how many shots hit or miss the A zone.

V-Tail, where are you a member? Mine is CFRPC. And since I am near downtown, the club is a 30 minute drive each way.

“ If the price still started with a one, I would probably send in the check without a second thought. But based on my usage, I really have to question whether hanging onto this membership is worth the money”

It’s 71¢ a day. Keep the membership, and make time to use it, is my advice.

Belong to two different ranges, one an outdoor sportsman club. Dues are $125 + $20 spouse each year. We use it between April and November, 2x a month. Great facility, excellent rules and lots of individual bays to allow us to really practice what we need to practice.

Other range is a pretty new (5 years now) indoor range. Pretty upscale, really well run and has been kept up nicely. Retired LEO/Veteran range rate is $325 a year, I pay an extra $10 each visit for my wife to share my lane. We use it during the bad weather months (Dec - Mar) again 2x a month. They have a good gun store in it and have offered numerous different dealer event days - kind of nice to try out new models. They also have a really well stocked rental wall.

Pretty happy with both of my ranges.

My yearly range membership was $350 per year but I didn't renew it after the first year.
Reason; people would bring their short barrel 223 AR's and 308's to shoot at this indoor range.
As they fired from the lanes next to me, the concussion from the muzzle blast would rattle my head!
No thanks! Why would anyone bring these hi power rifles to shoot 75 feet? They belong at outdoor, long distance ranges....And shame on the range owners/operators for allowing them!

The indoor range I shoot at allows them and people bring them in from time to time.

But, the range is actually 3 ranges in one. One is 10 lanes, 17 yards and is generally known as the "pistol" range. No rifles of any kind allowed and no short ARs allowed. It's totally separate from the other ranges.

The other range is 13 lanes. 5 of them are together and have a fairly soundproof door separating it from the other 8. That's where they stick the loud stuff.

I pay $120/year for a larger outdoor range. Longest available distance is only 100 yards but there are a half dozen pistol bays that afford up to about 40 yards so you essentially never get stuck sharing. I try to be there weekly from March through November. Totally worth it to me.
