I am a member of an outdoor range. I have been a member of this range since 2007 when I discovered a love of shooting. I quickly transitioned from shooting at static targets to pistol matches, to 3 gun matches (my favorite) and some 300 meter precision matches. I used the heck out of that range until 2012, since our second child came along in 2011. Since then, I have averaged a trip once or twice per year. Some years (2018 and 2019) I did not go at all. I have taken the kids a few times, and while they have fun, it is not something they ask to go back and do again and again. Back when I stopped using the membership in 2012, it was cheap, like $120 per year. So I just kept renewing. Then it went to $180, and I thought twice, but I kept renewing. For 2022, it goes to $260. And I am thinking about letting it go. For $260, I could use the super nice indoor range in town (Shooter's World) twice per year with the kids, and still have some money left over. The outdoor range does have 10-12 action bays, where I can engage multiple targets on the move, a 25, 50, 100 and 300 yard range, plus a shotgun stand with multiple throwers. And if I let it go and rejoin, I have to re-qualify on everything, which is a pain in the butt. If the price still started with a one, I would probably send in the check without a second thought. But based on my usage, I really have to question whether hanging onto this membership is worth the money. I have plenty of ammo, thousands of rounds of rifle, piston and .22LR, so that is not a limiting factor. It is mainly due to time constraints due to work, kids and other hobbies. I feel like I would miss this membership if it wasn't still there. But on the other hand, I have a decade behind me of lack of use, so how much longer do I need to keep paying for something I am not using?

I pay $300 a year for membership to a local place. Objectively it’s too much as the range isn’t all that great and it’s indoor and I can’t (officially) shoot shotguns there. But it’s a cool little store and the range is almost always empty on weekdays and it’s crazy close so I do spend a lot of time there. It’s nice to just go pop off a couple mags or whatever after a long day at work and since it’s usually empty I can bring my rifles and not feel bad, and I can take off all my PPE while I’m reloading mags or cleaning up. ETA I can bring as many guests as I want even if it requires multiple lanes. I’m sure there is a limit of I pushed it but the only people I bring are my kids or a random friend from out of town. I’ve had 5 guests in 2 lanes though and didn’t have to pay anything extra. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

I pay $150 per year and can bring up to 2 guests. The greatest part is we are given key fob access and there are no range staff. We are given free run of the place. Tactical bays, dedicated rifle and pistol ranges. .22 plinking ranges also. I consider myself fortunate to be a member of such a great range. They do have some rules that I don't agree with (No full auto / I learned the hard way and got put on 3 month punishment), but I can deal with it.

I pay $150/yr and shoot at least twice a month. If I were to pay the hourly rate, I'd be out way more than twice that. I also get free range rental pistols, which is nice to try before I buy. And I get member discounts on all non-sale items. No brainer.

My range is a sportsman's club with indoor archery in the clubhouse, full kitchen, and gathering room. The range is limited to paper targets and only goes out to a hundred yards but for a hundred bucks a year it's worth every penny to me. Best 3D archery in the area, fishing ponds, great place. When it's not freezing out my wife and I are there most weekends.

I belong to an outside range And shoot there 1-2 times a week Yearly fees are around $125 a year I belong to their IDPA group and the range has been very supportive to the actions shooting sports They are just now turning the 200 yd range in to a 300 yd range And taking that 100 yd of dirt and increasing the number of shooting bays from 8 to 12 They are discussing some shotgun bays also I can shoot in my back yard but stay a member , because of our action pistol group and it gives me a place to take customers among other reasons. 150/year Outdoors Rifles up to 500 yds 8 or nine pistol bays A covered pistol/rifle range with 8-10 points from 10-100 yds I go about every other week, sometimes several time a week depends on weather and what I have going on. There’s between 600-700 members, but going during the week I might see one other guy. The shotgun area is just a patch , and there’s a real clays/skeet range within five miles..so we don’t get a lot of shot gunners "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. I joined an outdoor range two years ago. 120 per year. Trap,Skeet, handgun ranges, 100 hundred and 200 yard rifle. Recently bought farm land next door, going to make a 500 yard range. It's an hour drive away. Haven't fired a round yet. Now that I'm retired maybe I'll start going.

My primary club has indoor and outdoor ranges with the indoor ranges accessible almost 24/7. I think it's 220/year for me and my wife. She hasn't been in years, but in good times I'm there at least once a week; in bad times, more like once a month. I also belong to another club much farther away with a variety of outdoor ranges and a single indoor range. It's a 3 hour round trip and, frankly, I've only ever gone twice in the last two years. Membership is only $40/year, so no big shakes. ---------------------------- Chuck Norris put the laughter in "manslaughter" Educating the youth of America, one declension at a time.

I belong to a few. I used to shoot skeet 3-4 days a week, along with handgun and rifle. Now since leagues have been discontinued the membership is up to 285 a year at the range closest, outside only. The other 2 ranges together don't equal that and offer what I need. I have been a member for at least 20 years and I am not rejoining. The sad thing is I know the manager and enjoy seeing everyone.

Sportsman’s Club for 20 a month. General purpose Range to 100 yards 300 yard rifle Pistol Pits Trap/Skeet Sporting Clays Course Archery 3D Archery course Air Rifle Range Bird Dog training and boarding as well as bird hunts Casting Ponds Fishing Ponds (though in need of some work) Hunting, camping, hiking. Cut your own free firewood I am likely forgetting some other options. Life is busy and I have not been in a year and a half though I do not mind paying $20 a month even if I don’t use it currently. I was going 3 days a week and so $20 a month was cheap. They do lots of youth stuff so my money helps with funding that when I am not using the range and I am good with that. Life will slow and I’ll use it more frequently. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. This seems like the best option. If you find you're shooting more then rejoin the outdoor range. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

I'm paying $400/yr for an indoor range and having this very discussion in my head currently. I went 9 times last year and 8 times in 2020. That is not even breaking even. Never really had to wait for a lane so no benefit there. I do get 5% of in store purchase and transfer fees. Like a party in your pants |
I belong to a outdoor shooting club. About 300 acres. They feature a comprehensive shotgun sports area, many pistol and rifle ranges up to 600 yards. Cannon and archery ranges along with a rocket range. Hunting and fishing. Its very well kept and membership is closed at 2500 members. They are always building and adding additional features. Planned are electronic scoring on the 600 yard range, Large club house to feature guest instructors, and a camping area. Downside, I only make it out there a few times a year. Its the coldest place on earth so Winter is a no go,Spring and Fall are hit or miss. I don't even remember what the BASE membership fee is any more. Every year there are special assessments added to membership fees. These are stated for new building projects but most extra expenses seem to come from PAST litigation from the old facility concerning lead removal from the old shotgun areas from the old club, read MILLIONS of dollars. This seems to be coming to an end. They also had to buy the farm next door because the club was accused of having ONE round thought to be from the 600yard range pierce a barn on that property. It turned out after investigation that ballistically the hole did NOT come from the club, they bought the farm anyways. COST: about $500 per year.( about half is the actual membership cost) I would probably not renew but after this year, with a senior discount, (must be a member for at least 5 years to qualify)I can live with a half price membership. The range is about a 1 hour+ drive. My Son has a 100yard range at his home and is also about 1 hour away so having this available makes it a harder decision to re-join the club. The Shotgun sports and the 600 yard range are my main reasons for re-joining.

I belong to two private clubs. One costs $100 a year and has an indoor range in addition to the outdoor ranges. The other I am a life member so no dues. No indoor range, but I can shoot almost 300 yards. ------------------------------------- Always the pall bearer, never the corpse.
