Working my 7th Christmas in the past 10 years offshore. Before I had kids I always volunteered to work the holidays for people who did. Comes with being a merchant mariner. Hopefully next year I’ll have off. I should be in Skype range so I can see my daughters open presents tomorrow.
Merry Christmas everyone!

May the only calls for service during these holidays be of a red light in front of a herd of reindeer pulling a sleigh through the air setting off your radar/laser while a jolly voice rings out Merry Christmas!

I was on the road today, but only from 11AM-4PM as the snow ended and the full-timers said they could handle it. I retired as a reserve LEO last year but stayed on as a traffic control/assist motorist volunteer, and with 2" of snow we had plenty of both! Our daughter is home from KC, but she's 28 and it's not quite the same as when she was little.

Assisted at one accident, helped an elderly lady collect items from her car that was being towed. The other car also got towed, the family who came out to pick them up thanked me for helping out, I said I'm glad to do it.

Weather patrol is always rewarding as they're glad to see us. I'm happy to help them, also happy to help the full timers on my department.

Yup, it took a stroke and a series of seizures, but I'm good. I'd still be there if I could....

we told the little one today that it was Christmas because we have to drive tomorrow...but he's 8 and didn't catch us.! hehe he..

This has been so cool.
I wish I had all those Christmas' back. (sighs)

Wow, that is an unenviable yet respected record.
I'm on the hook for 24 of the next 48.
Merry CHRISTmas and God bless to you and yours sir.

Thanks Todd. I'm on duty, and I've about had it with everyone, and I mean everyone. Glad I stopped by SF tonight.

Thanks to all true public servants. I'll be alone all day tomorrow so I'm volunteering to serve others too. I'll be thinking about you.

I'll second that emotion. I've lost count of the Christmases, Thanksgivings, and Independence Days I've worked...but in years past I have also been in the care of those who have worked on these special holidays.

To those who are serving over Christmas and New Years...THANK YOU, for both your service and your sacrifice...and to your families as well.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Wishing you all the very best! Merry Christmas and Happy New year! Be safe and God bless.

I worked them and Thanksgiving for years. I spent my holidays working and missing out on family, now I don't have any and I'm off so, in a way I'm back to where I was, just different circumstances.

May you find the little joys, and enjoy the time that you do have with family and friends.

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New year!

Formuch of the thirty I did on the street I worked the holidays. No kids so I didn't mind all that much. But we always tended to gather and meet all the others working those days and nights. Medical staffs, ems and others. Having something in common we all tended to make the best of it.

Id like to thank all of you for the well thoughts and wishes!

6 years in the Marines and 22+ on Chicago Police, I've missed one or two Holidays with my family.
Today is one of those days. My family is eating well and opening presents as I'm sitting on a snowy & cold crime scene as I type this. (Bad-guy picked the wrong Good guy to rob. I'll post more later)

Tomorrow will be different! I'll be off and enjoying.

To anyone that's working tomorrow, I'll be thinking about you.

A sincere Merry Christmas/ Hanukkah to all Wink

Good thread and I'll add in my thanks.

I've got the scanner on tonight and it's just depressing!

Person passed out in the parking lot.

2 different calls for out of control children. Police and ambulance went to one and they told the dispatcher they wouldn't respond to the other.

Domestic situations galore.
