I am, along with "Stop the bleed." I need a refresher, though. I did it as a register leader in BSA. One of the nice things about the Boy Scouts of America is the tremendous amount of training they make available to their leaders at little to no cost. This space intentionally left blank.

anyone who shoots with others should have stop the bleed class and a tourniquet and quickclot in their gear. Everyone should get CPR. full agree. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Yup, I am required to renew annually. In my job I have seen lives saved and lost due to CPR being used correctly or incorrectly. I am currently investigating a case where I am blown away the suicide victim lived, but it was due to proper CPR being given. I have also seen times where a person may have lived, but people with CPR training did not do it, they claimed they did, the person died, and they get criminally charged. I have also seen where AEDs are available but not used due to panic and also due to negligence of a facility not literally taking them out of the box after getting them. All of my experience is in a jail or prison setting so it is different than just out in the public coming upon a person in distress. NRA Benefactor Life Member

AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS. But I get paid to run codes. So far, one "save". That is released from the hospital with no deficits. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

I was a Paramedic for just about 30 years. The CPR recommendations haven’t changed significantly since I retired. I have a first aid kit in my truck and in my shooting bag. (Anyone who goes shooting with me is shown where the kit is in my range bag and in the truck.) If we are talking about bleeding, there are some things that are critically important. For instance, my “Gucci” belt is way more useful as a a TK than my gun belt, which is too stiff -> enter the CAT tourniquet. Almost more important is the knowledge of the task at hand and how to apply that knowledge. Like with shooting - the more you know, the less gear you need. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

Nope, when I had a job, had to every year, but no longer. Still remember the basics. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Told cops where to go for over 29 years…![]() |
^^^^ This… Had required training during USMC days, but last time I had CPR training was 1991 or 1992 when I went through Seattle Fire EMT training program. The 911 gig was police only, anything medical we transferred, so wasn’t really part of my job requirements. I retired just over two years ago, but winter of 2024 while volunteering at the local cold weather shelter we had an OD. Dude was out and down for several minutes before we were advised. Totally non-responsive and fixed/dilated eyes. Quick check I didn’t find a pulse, but didn’t take too long trying to find one either. I just rolled him on his back and started compressions. Had another volunteer call 911 while a 3rd fetched the Naloxone. I did compressions for about 5 mins (seemed like a lot longer) stopping to do the nasal spray, then restarting. Can’t remember if it was two or three cartridges we used, but by the time Medics arrived he was talking to us. Not sure if he was really gone or just circling, but for me it was almost an out of body experience just reacting and doing what I had learned 30 years earlier. Afterwards I was exhausted, dripping with sweat and it took about 6 hours for the adrenaline to clear my system. A rush I would just as soon NOT experience again. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I'm required to re-certify yearly. I've had one that had a full recovery, and a few more that had ROSC before getting to the hospital. More often, we don't get them back.

Yes, I've been CPR certified since the mid 80's when I started with the fire department, and then the EMS. Got a save with my first time doing CPR, and haven't done it in person since. I still recertify every two years for my current job with 911, and probably will stay certified after I retire. Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

I'm still certified. I have had one save in the past 28 years. I have also had two AED saves. But a lot of no saves. Not minority enough!
