Editited the title, didn't want to get my "tail" smacked Big Grin

However, in my defense, it wasn't me, yeah it was that other guy, that's it, it was him....

Well she said she wanted to look at them, the 2019 MKC is at the point it needed to go, $1400 AC last month and who knows what's next.

Test drove a Tesla Model Y, and a Chevrolet Equinox EV. The Tesla's performance and tech is hands above all, but, the Equinox does something it doesn't, it feels and looks just like the ICE Equinox.

Off to Carvana the MKC went today and got a good deal from them, more than the dealer offered.

Picked up a 2025 Equinox EV LT2 and it came with a Level 2 charger, that has to be installed. I have space in the panel and 240 already in the garage, just have to upgrade the socket to a Hubbell HBL9450A, the preferred receptacle for all EV installs, and upgrade the breaker to a 50 amp.

Anywho, Heres the new EV, in my defense it's her idea, and frankly a good decision, with the $7500 federal rebate ending Sept 30 dealers are looking to move all EV's.

It has the convivence package II which is 21 inch wheels, ambient lighting, dual air controls, ventilated seats (this was important in FL)and much more.

Lot of tech, no Apple Car plan and she didn't miss it one bit driving it home 30 miles.

Anyone here experienced installing an EV charger, I did find a good utoob video..

Had my L2 installed in the garage in 2014. I’d just pay an electrician (licensed) for sake of your homeowners. It was not expensive to install for me. Think I paid $150 back then.

Now if you lease some panels, or buy them, you can charge for basically free.

Welcome to the EV club.

I hated the mandate aspect for EV’s. If you want to get one, great but don’t force anyone to buy one. My Mustang Mach E fits my lifestyle well. I’m retired and don’t drive very much anymore.

We already had solar panels and a Tesla 2 battery power wall plus the charger in the garage. My cousin installed them because he had a Volt.

We now have a Mach E and a Mercedes EQS 450 sedan in the garage.

Congratulations on your new car!

Recently was close to a new Kia and when it went reverse, a backup alarm went off! I asked the driver about it and she told me it was a safety issue, since EVs dont make much noise.
Is that a feature on all EVs?

I don’t think so. At least it was not on my son’s 2018 Tesla Model 3, but I can’t say for newer Teslas.

How was your dealing with Carvana??? Working on replacing my wife’s vehicle at the moment and was thinking I would see what they offered for it.
How does the process work with them?

I am really want a used Model 3 doubt I will be able to get to it before the tax incentive ends.
So it will be interesting to see what prices do.
Demand will go down so prices may go down a little bit. Used credit is $4000 if prices drop by $2000 not a huge deal I did not get in before the credit goes away.

I sold a car a couple of years ago to Carvana and it was painless. I scanned them a copy of the title and a picture of my DL and they came by with a check in hand and picked it up. The offer was so much better than CarMax and 2 Honda dealers.

While I don’t think EV’s are ready for prime time and I HATE any mandates as well as the folks who are simply virtue signaling with literally no knowledge of what they are buying, there is also a lot to like about EV’s.

From a gearhead perspective the instant torque is nice, from the nerd perspective they are just cool devices. Practically it’s nice to have an appliance for your daily short hops you just charge and grab like any other device. I have absolutely no issues with folks who like/want an EV because they actually like and want an EV. Just don’t be a “VEGAN” about it and preach beyond the fun/technical merits. Smile

Enjoy the new ride. Have fun with it.

Congratulations. I think an EV works well for many people and probably ideal for most of us with more than one vehicle.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

My BIL has a Kia EV. It makes that noise when selecting reverse or forward. My BIL observed that it sounds like the sound that HBO broadcasts that HBO broadcasts before a show. Every time I hear it I start whistling the theme from Game of Thrones. I am visiting my SIL and she has Honda CRV hybrid, makes the same sound when selecting forward or reverse.

It seems we are now moving in the right direction. Mandating EVs was foolish when the technology and infrastructure is immature. Offering EV, Hybrid and ICE as options allows personal choice and the opportunity to ramp up infrastructure (charging and power generation) along with EV technology.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

Like Rushfan65's experience, painless.

Login to Carvana, input vin or license plate it will pull the data,

Enter the details on your car and in seconds you'll have a quote.

You can click to sell it, and the process begins, all electronic.

Answer several questions, they'll send you digital forms to sign, in FL our titles are digital so that appears and you sign it digitally as well.

Setup an appointment to either drop it at their location or they will pick it up.

There was no charge for us to use pickup, I've heard there is if you are a long way away but they tell you that, I think it said $75.

They come by, inspect the car, take pictures, test drive it and pull it behind the pickup and hand you a check

I would suggest you also check Carmax and other online buyers just to compare, I did and Carmax offer was over $4K higher than Carmax and the dealer, they wanted the super clean Lincoln.

Very cool. You said that it came with a Level 2 charger that has to be installed. What type charger? Brand? Model?

My LYRIQ (I thing all LYRIQs) came with a portable charger that is not installed, it's a take-it-with-you type in a carrying case, photo below. It has two AC adapters:
  • one with a standard 110 volt plug. The charger functions as a Level 1 charger when this is used. The car gives me a choice of 8 or 12 amp charging rate with this one, so somewhere between one and three miles of range is added to the battery. Not really that useful, except maybe at a location where 110 is the only thing available, and you're going to be there for a while.

  • The second adapter has a plug for a NEMA 14-50 240 volt receptacle. The charger functions at Level 2 when this is used, so charge rate is decent, but not spectacular.
Here's what it looks like (carrying case is not shown, but it's a soft vinyl zipper case that fits nicely under the floorboard of the luggage area.
