I'm certainly not going to be an early adopter of this new iOS 14. It does have some interesting new features though. However, from past experiences from the iOS 13 that had it's share of glitches early on, I'll wait this one out. I received an email today with the announcement about iOS 14 as well as the new Mac software update Big SUR. I would though caution those about opening up the Keynote address as it make your head explode with the politics of today being addressed. Other than that I explored the features of the new iOS for iPhones and many of the new features can appeal to many. Regards, Will G.

Of more major note, IMO, is Apple's move away from Intel to its own ARM processors. Many have predicted the convergence of iOS and macOS products, and this is a move that will help make that happen. Developers will not need to write and compile apps for different architectures, and Apple becomes freer to migrate the user experience across form factors. (This is not the first - nor the second - time Apple has changed the CPU architecture for its products. Reports are that the company already has Macs running under the new processors in Cupertino). I swear I had something for this |
One article mentioned that developers can get a MacMini with the A12Z chip for $500 to test out their software, but mention was made when Apple did that with Intel chips they had to be returned and developers got a production version after. Still no mention of a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen yet.

I got an email from apple announcing this new wonderful operating system for my phone and to be honest I could not figure out what it was promoting.. then again, even though I have a new iPhone (my third or fourth) I don't spend my life with my face stuck to it.... heck I can't even get Seri to answer me on this one.... I hope they raise the IQ of Siri, that chic isn't too smart. I understand the OS for the iWatch will have a "wash your hands" feature and the OS on the phones will allow you to add a facemask to your emojis. I can't wait for the continued brainwashing from apple. The new chip that they produce will start appearing, late 2020, and I pity the poor fool that gets to pay $2k+ to be their lab rat. The best news is the iPhone 11's will be be reduced with the intro of the 12's _________________________

In the new update features for the iPhone it has this new power reserve listed..how would this work? Automatically switches to some low power mode? Maybe restricts the use of certain power draining apps so you can still use the phone for calls and maybe messaging? Regards, Will G.

Will it include a simulated RDS that will provide me with greater accuracy when taking a selfie of my own arse? With my aging eyesight, I’ve really struggled of late and I’m losing followers on Instagram.

Apple to replace Intel chips with its own ARM chips on MacBooks This worries me. I use an ancient programming language that likely won’t have any more updates. I fear it might not work with the new processor. “Apple unveiled a 'historical' change to its Mac lineup during its first-ever digital Worldwide Developers Conference. The tech giant is ditching Intel chips for its own in-house ARM chip, providing a similar architect across all of its devices. The challenges Intel in the PC market, as the new ARM chip will have a lower power consumption, cost less and provide users with more control over product plans.” https://mol.im/a/8448551 Serious about crackers

On the flip side, getting featured that Android OS has had since 2014 will be really cool.

Every time Apple has switched processors they have provided a level of backward compatibility for a time: cocoa, rosetta, etc. For the most part, the transition from the Motorola 680xx series to PowerPC to Intel was accompanied by "shims" that enabled legacy software to continue working. However, you've already admitted to using software that is likely end-of-life. I have sometimes felt left behind, but as time progresses, I find newer solutions. I suspect that as the new architecture unwinds, developers will be migrating their products and new offerings will appear to replace the old. It is the way of technology. This time around it is called Rosetta II, to allow legacy x86 apps to run on ARM (with reduced performance). I'm skeptical how long they'll keep Rosetta II around, given how quickly they dropped the original Rosetta. Somewhere in there I caught that developers will be able to write apps in such a way they will run on x86 or ARM. I really hope that model catches on. I will hold off on an ARM Mac for a while, personally, to see if that model takes hold. I suspect the developers of major Mac apps will do this (eventually), because there will be legacy x86 Macs in use for a long time. When in doubt, mumble

Yeah. The “ancient programming language” is SPITBOL. If it doesn’t run on Macs with ARM processors I’ll begin using Icon, a slightly newer language developed by the same guy that developed SPITBOL, and is actively maintained. It has most of the facilities of SPITBOL that appeal to me (and some other useful facilities to boot). But the transition won’t be easy – becoming proficient in Icon, rewriting old SPITBOL programs. No, you just got it significantly cheaper than you would have had you bought it in 6 months.

Why, man, why?? This adds nothing to the discussion of iOS14. It is a 1990’s era, MAC vs Windows dig, equivalent to throwing a dead cat in your neighbor’s yard. It serves no real purpose except to distract and annoy. In reality, there’s not that much difference in either platform. All bickering is at the margins, with each platform adopting each other’s innovations at the next update. For example, I’d expect Android to adopt a platform level ability to use the phone as a car key, with the ability to loan a key to a friend with any brand Android phone, with a set expiration date. This should hopefully come to Android in the near future, since it’s coming with iOS14, although it’s unsure if Trust Zone will work like Secure Enclave for this across all devices. BTW, the 280 Nosler does nothing that the 7mm RUM didn’t do way back in 2001, except maybe do it a little more efficiently. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

I thought that might be specifically for the car door unlock feature (maybe a few others), but I'd assume most apps would be out of commission.

I’ll be downloading iOS 14 the day it’s released. Never had any glitches with any Apple updates. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

I've never had any glitches with Apple's updates, but I've held off on upgrading my Macs to Catalina solely because the latest OS doesn't offer anything I want, and removes some features I like.
