Fresca's great. But my go tos are the sugar free versions of A&W Root Beer, Sunkist Orange Soda, and Cananda Dry Ginger Ale. I give the brands because other brands are NOT interchangeable.

My vote is for Fresca as well. I don’t drink a lot of diet soda but find it a refreshing change. It’s really good with a shot or two of Absolut Citron mixed in too We will never know world peace, until three people can simultaneously look each other straight in the eye Liberals are like pussycats and Twitter is Trump's laser pointer to keep them busy while he takes care of business - Rey HRH.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’ve put Citrus Fresca on my to-try list. Also thinking about diet tonic water (I don’t have a sweet tooth). As for the Propel suggestion, I keep the Propel powder packets (Raspberry Lemonade flavor) on hand for hydration in warm weather. It does make water quite tasty, but I suspect its electrolytes aren’t a good idea for long term cool weather consumption. The Diet Vanilla Coke appears to have caffeine, which I want to avoid in the evening. Serious about crackers

Fresca is a good choice. A lot of effervescence and a nice lemon lime flavor. I drank a lot of it but not in recent times. Make sure it is ice cold. The taste changes a lot when it get's a little warm. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. I quit sodas back in 05 and love these: Unless you insist on 0 calories (these have 5) and really want the fizz, these are great. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

I'd really like someone to prove that claim. It's often repeated, but defies science. The aspartame molecule bears no structural resemblance to glucose. It's like saying you walked past a 57 Chevy and your 2019 Ford key fob unlocked the door.

My vote is club soda. You could add whatever flavoring agents you might want. I am on a clinical trial for semaglutide for possible cardiovascular benefits. I've cut out most soft drinks and reduced other carb intakes as well. I picked up club soda as my main fizzy drink. I still have one small can of Coca Cola/Dr Pepper (7.5 oz.)in the mornings, still need that caffeine. While I may be getting the placebo, I've had some of the side effects, and have lost 67 lbs. I prefer the White Rock brand club soda, followed by Canfield's. Bill Gullette

Artificial sweeteners are horrible for you—almost as horrible as HFCS soda and don’t actually help you lose weight. If you can get used to La Croix grapefruit is my fave and my kids all like it also. I also like arrowhead sparkling waters in various flavors. If you drink them very cold and maybe add a twist of lime it’s almost like drinking regular soda. Sort of. --------------------------- My hovercraft is full of eels.

This is a good recommendation. Some of the unsweetened seltzer waters are very good. La Croix is not one of them. There are a few others that are very good though. Bubbly is one of them...….waterloo and spindrift all taste better.....la Croix is metallic tasting. Another is the little 2 ounce artificial water flavor enhancer squeeze bottles......I sometimes give a small squirt in a bottle of water that flavors it just a little bit......without making it sweet sweet/strong tasting.

Since that is often the reflexive preface to these discussions, I’d be interested in seeing the random, double blind studies that show that they are horrible. What specific diseases have been linked to artificial sweeteners when controlled for other dietary and behavioral factors?

I agree with avoiding artificial sweeteners. There is no evidence that drinking diet sodas helps with weight loss, and lots of secondary evidence about potential harm. My wife’s latest find in this regard, and our current favorite, is Trader Joe’s flavored seltzer water. It has a little bit of fruit juice, no separate sugars or artificial sweeteners; has 15 calories per can, all from the juice. To me tastes better than La Croix and other flavored sparkling water brands. Blood orange is my favorite. _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne

I certainly respect your opinion, given your background. Which secondary evidence of potential harm do you find most credible?

I agree that just drinking zero calorie soda won’t produce weight loss. But I began drinking them to reduce the amount of adult beverages that I had been drinking. I have to believe that will help with weight management. Serious about crackers

Definitely. If you substitute something with no calories for something with a bunch (and change nothing else), you will lose weight. The problem is when people think that they can "cheat" and end up eating even more calories than before. There may even be a few left out there that think that the diet soda somehow counteracts other calories. Of course, that's ridiculous.

Those are the ones I drink. I strongly dislike the taste of all the artificial sweeteners and sugar substitutes. None are palatable to me. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.
