If only I'd have know that 10-15 years ago. Took my truck into Latham Ford one day for a simple job and they raped me. Didn't even get the common courtesy of a reach-around.

When we built our house I had an attached garage built for parking cars, and a detached garage for parking a truck and tractor with a bay left for a lift. I finally bought the lift last year. I also have a roughly 16’ x 30’ shop area in that building that has mostly woodworking tools. My “shop” was as important to me during construction as the house lol. Stop by any time you’re in town!

In fairness my house and shop is only 7 years old so I couldn’t have helped you back then. For what it’s worth, I have never been a fan of Latham Ford either. I always liked Jack Byrne and Orange Ford, both of which have been bought out by other companies now unfortunately.

Ugghhhh. Wife has a 2015 Suburban that just rolled 93k miles. It has been the most problematic vehicle I have owned! I am praying I get 3 more years out of it and we can pick up a slightly used 2024 or 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander to replace it.
Won’t be in a place to get one when they are released later this year plus I like to buy slightly used.

One day, one day!! I have a nice place to work on my vehicles as we have upstairs and downstairs garages.
The downstairs garage is my shop with a large pad out back. Unfortunately to low for a lift and the Tundra does not fit inside it either.

snwghstStagger it out based on the hard use schedule
I didn’t do them all at once on my 13 tundra
Plugs at 30, 60, 90
Cases at 40, 80, 120
Main Tran at 50, 100, 150
Belt at 100
Im old school and changed all fluids at 2500 when I bought new. Overkill for sure, but still found stuff
185k when I traded it in on a 17 Tacoma Pro MT.
Did same with the Tacoma got traded to a 2020 4Runner pro with 125K miles (yes I drive a lot for work) T4R at 80k and 2021 Tesla at 40k currently
I also the person that changes the lower unit oil and impeller annually regardless of hours on my outboard motors

I’ll make the same offer in Central VA.

I am pretty good with vehicles however Motors, transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials are all well above what I can overhaul myself. And all would be at least 2k to fix or replace I’ll spend $3-$500 every 3 or 4 years so I don’t have to fix them.
However, one day I will successfully rebuild a T5 manual transmission.

Mars_AttacksI only replace plugs when they misfire.
The Frontier has 300K on it and it got plugs and wires at 250K. Now water pumps only last around 150K miles on it.
The rear brakes have never been touched. The last I checked they had over 75% lining left. The fronts last well over 100K.
The belts got replaces at 200K because I did a timing belt.

StorminNorminI do absolutely as much work as I can on my 2002 Chevy Z-71 truck. At 100K miles I had absolutely all fluids changed in it along with spark plugs. I decided not to do the plugs myself as two are hard to get to and if the shop screws it up then they have to fix it.
I have done so much maintenance myself that has saved me money, but some things I can’t or don’t want to do. The next thing I have to do is fix my oil leak. I think I have to change the oil pan gasket, which is a pain in the ass on a 4x4 truck as you have to lower the front differential to get the pan out. I will save a ton of money if I do it myself so I am researching it. I am not a mechanic, but I can do it if I research it.
Preventative maintenance goes a long way in my opinion for the life of a vehicle. I just try to do it all myself as going to a dealer or shop is what deters people.

The spark plug closest to the firewall on the passenger side is a bit of a bear. I ended up going through the wheel well if memory serves me correctly.
As for the oil pan gasket it’s really not bad at all. A good set of Jack stands and a good Jack to get it pretty high in the air.
You then remove a crossmember and it’s 4 bolts to loosen the front differential. Just put the Jack under it. You only need to come down a few inches to slide the pan toward the back of the truck.

EdmondThis thread reminds me that I have nearly 100,000 miles on my brakes. Will likely do the fronts soon. I change oil every 7,000-8,000 miles. Just changed the spark plugs 5,000 miles ago.
