I'd rather have luck than skill any day |
Atlanta's airport is the largest by passenger volume in the world with 2450~ flights per day (2018 data) amounting to 107 million passengers. There are two terminals, five runways and seven concourses. Delta is based here and has a fleet of 778 aircraft. A google image of the airport at the height of the pandemic indicating just 3 planes parked at gates!

It’s not that big. I mean I did see an old high school buddy of mine deplaning at Gate C18, he was drinking a Pepsi.....but it’s not that big of picture. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

If you have to fly it's really not all that bad of a time, congestion wise. Two weeks ago we flew Southwest out of St. Louis to Orlando. Zero waiting time for our ticket and baggage check. Going through that stupid TSA took a little longer even with the wife and I having Real ID. It made no difference whatsoever. The plane was about half full both going and coming home. It was a very nice flight. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

We passed through Hartsfield last week and it was definitely busier than the picture indicates but definitely not as busy as previous trips prior to the pandemic. Build a man a fire and keep him warm for a night, set a man on fire and keep him warm the rest of his life.

That picture must be from months ago at the height of the lockdowns and traveling halt. I also passed through Atlanta about two weeks ago. Was probably around 70% of normal. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

I don't know man I just got here myself |
Another creepy airport photo. This is the main international departure terminal Z Frankfort Germany airport. I took this photo at 12 noon on November 12 heading home from Budapest Hungary. This terminal is normally shoulder to shoulder packed this time of day. Just a few schmucks like me here and there. Unreal

I was supposed to be in Frankfurt last month, but switched to a different trip when the airplane broke. Frankfurt has been relatively quiet most of the year. Just lately, especially so. I was just through Atlanta. It was fairly packed. Not full steam, but busy. Same at DFW, Anchorage, Seattle, Detroit, Charleston, Dulles, Miami, O'Hare, and even Phoenix had more traffic. Salt Lake City was a little quieter. If you want to see a ghost town, visit Dubai World (DWC). Three flights a day on a good day, nothing to do with a pandemic. Sometimes up to 45 minutes to get through security, and that's as crew. All the shops are open, with no one to shop there. Even the food. Open. No customers. Duty free? Staffed, brightly lit, nobody to shop. Massive parking lot. Empty. It's been that way for years. They're still waiting for the next big wave. Cleveland was busy a few days ago. So was Philadelphia. Delta flights do empty seats and distancing. American, packed. Depends who you fly. Earlier in the year, I'd get on a flight and there would only be three passengers, all in uniform. Now, most flights are full.

Ok, this is beyond frustrating. I used to be able to put a picture on Imgur, grab the BBCode and post it right into the forum. Now they've hidden the BBCode, and though I can still get the address of the image whenever I try to use the Image tool here it doesn't work even if I add a .jpg to the end of the photo. Anyone help me out here? I have pictures from DTW, ATL, and MIA airports on April 14th of this year I'm trying to share, but they're not working. Here's one of the addresses. What's the trick? https://imgur.com/a/fdizjWC

While I'm sure that is in F Concourse for maximum passenger inconvenience, I'm surprised those three flights aren't spread out in F, D and A for PITA factor. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

No double standards |
We flew out of San Jose airport on a Sat morning, the day before the 2016 Superbowl at Levi Stadium, ~3 miles away. Inbound traffic was quite heavy. We were the only people in the security line going outbound. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. We Are...MARSHALL |
We had to make some major changes the morning of our recent trip and ended up flying Delta. On the way back home we were on one of the express jet flights out of Atlanta. There was a disagreement between two guys over the seating as one guy thought he wouldn’t be seated beside someone else. He was a little pissy with the gentleman already seated who finally found his boarding pass and confirmed he was in the correct seat in the same pissy manner the first guy complained. The first guy complained to the flight attendant who ultimately reseated him elsewhere. She explained they were at 75% capacity so it was possible he’d be seated next to someone. That was the only issue. I was impressed with how the airline handled the guidelines as well as the airports. On a side note, I had my first bad experience with Spirit. I’d booked the trip a couple months ago along with reservations etc. we arrived at the airport to find out the flight had been cancelled weeks ago. They sent an email that got caught in my spam filter. No text call or otherwise. Also no refund on the credit card, just kept the payment and applied it as a credit for future flights which also helped hide the cancellation as I would’ve noticed it on the statement. Thankfully we were able to catch the other flight from Delta. It messed up some scheduled meetings for me but overall wasn’t too bad. Build a man a fire and keep him warm for a night, set a man on fire and keep him warm the rest of his life.

That's poor service on Spirit's part, though not really shocking. It always pays to check the flight the night prior, and usually a few days to a week prior, as well. It's always a good idea to make a note of other flights and jot them down, just in case something changes. That way you'll have something in your back pocket to start making plans. I jumped on a flight out of Anchorage on Delta a few weeks ago. A maintenance problem cropped up, then a missing passenger (on board, they just didn't know who they'd lost track of), then a baggage issue, and finally an anti-ice valve issue. Five hours at the gate, boarded, trying to go, and finally they decided to cancel the flight at just after two in the morning. I was fortunate to get on another flight leaving in a half hour, because I still had four legs and a car ride to get to my next point at Dover AFB. I ended up changing from Atlanta to Minneapolis, and a few other swaps, and at one point got pulled off a flight while boarding, pulled baggage off that was being loaded, and sent somewhere else. Crazy, long days. It happens.
